christian or not, the nice thing about religious bands nowadays is a lot of them make their songs ambigious. for me, it's sort of a breakup. taking a piece of someone could be a nice memory or a bit of clothing or a personal gift, and hope for all eternity that maybe someday you'll cross paths in a good way later on. i think that everyone gets to a point in a relationship where when it ends you look back and think that you had just one second where everything was perfect. |

I really can't see how the song would be about any one war in specific. i mean, all of us can imagine, or even a few of us live a solider sitting on a battlefield pre/post battle, saying, oh god, what have i done? or remembering their mothers, or even looking back at the years leading up to that moment and saying, where did all those years go? for me, i'm really reminded of Vietnam, the soldiers came back and were spit on and cursed at and treated horribly 'scared to make it out alive now, murders all i know' i'm sure any soldier that ever lived might have wanted to make a different life than face the possibility of dying on some foreign land for a cause that they might not have really believed in. personally, listening to the song, i can see images from all wars spring to mind. from the jungles to the deserts to the planes above germany to pearl harbor to gettysburg to the crusades and beyond, especially the part before the last chorus |

this song has been running through my head non-stop since my boyfriend and i broke up i keep hearing people telling me over and over again that things will get better and that i could find someone else (not likely in this place) and that the memories and pain of this will fade after some time, and i hear that in my mind along with the song. i see the way people look at me now, and remember how my eyes burn with the tears welling up when people look at me. i keep wanting to go back to the way it was with him, holding each other at night, promising to stay like that until we died. they say i'm too young to worry about this, because i'm only 20, but you never know when your time is up, 'seize the day,' right? |
