no.. it's "raping all around me" have you ever heard them live? paul CLEARLY sings "raping". plus those are the lyrics on the booklet and official website. |

| Interpol – Take You on a Cruise Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I have a tattoo of a ship on my leg and under it says "tears drown in the wake of delight" haha. My mom thinks this song is about rape though so she's not impressed. I never thought about it that way. I always thought it was about an old rich guy trying to convince a young girl to come away with him. That he'll treat her right and take all her sorrows away. But then again if I look at it from the rape angle, this song could be written from the classic "power reassurance rapist" or "gentleman rapist" point of view. Thy fantasize that they are the victim's lover or boyfriend and are very gentle during the attack. They will constantly reassure their victims. "It's alright, please don't cry. don't fight. i love you." etc. "I see that you've come to resist me" and "I'm a pit bull in time" are both lines that make him seem stubborn, unable to accept the fact the girl he's after doesn't have feelings for him back. After he takes her on a cruise (rapes her), she'll see how wonderful he is and want to be with him. (tears will drown in the wake of delight) I could really see it from either perspective and it's entirely possible Paul wrote it that way on purpose. Songs about rape are controversial so maybe he made it very subtle and tells people it's about something else. |

| Interpol – Song Seven Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| the interlude right after the "start again buttercup" climax is fucking amazing. it sends shivers up and down my spine. daniel is a genius. i don't even care what the lyrics mean, and i'm usually a lyrics freak. the music is THAT fucking good. | |

I think people are trying to romanticize the song when it doesn't need to be. I think the lyrics are pretty straightforward in the fact this is about rape, or at least taking advantage of a girl. "Yours is the only version of my desertion that I could ever subscribe to, that is all that I can do." The girl he's interested in is obviously giving him the cold shoulder, ignoring him. He's putting up with it from her. "You are a past dinner, the last winner." I can't decide if this is symbolic or not. Either he's literally comparing her to dinner, like she's a piece of meat, or he had taken her out for a date before, and she left (desertion) and he's bitter. He's not going to let her win. "I'm raping all around me." "Until the last drop is behind you" I think this refers to him slipping something into her drink to make her fall asleep (GHB). He's waiting for her to finish it off. "But you're so cute when you're frustrated, dear." She can't understand what's happening. "You're so cute when you're sedated, dear." She's starting to fall asleep. "Sleep tight. Grim Rite." She's passed out from the drug he gave her. (He thinks she looks cute) This isn't his first time doing this. It's a dark right of passage, a sinister ritual. a "grim rite" "We have 200 couches where you can sleep tonight." He tells her has an extra couch she can sleep it off at his place. She's drunk and drugged up so she accepts. The 200 thing is obviously an exaggeration. "You are the only person who's completely certain there is nothing here to be into." I think the "nothing" here refers to the people. She's arrogant. The girl thinks she's too good for any of the guys in the room. There's nothing there to be into, she's sure of it "You are a past sinner, the last winner." Again,in his mind, she needs to be punished for not giving anyone the time of day. He's not going to let these women win anymore. "But you cannot safely say while I will be away That you will not consider sadly how you helped me to stray You will not reach me I am resenting a position that is past resentment" He won't feel bad after. He knows she'll be wondering if she did something to provoke him. He resents how she treated him before. (certain there is nothing here to be into. she wouldn't even give him a chance.) It's a really misogynistic song. Like a guy who's been treated badly by women and has started taking it out on them by committing rape. He tried to get sex the conventional way. (a past dinner) So now he's taking it. It seems like he feels they brought it on themselves. |

| ok i was wrong, it's "upward and outward" | |
| Interpol – No I in Threesome Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| paul said that it's about a guy suggesting a threesome to fix a dying relationship, hahaha. | |
| Interpol – The Lighthouse Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i really like that idea, i think it's perfect. | |
| Interpol – No I in Threesome Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i know, i realized that after but i can't edit it , sorry! | |
| Interpol – The Lighthouse Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love this song, the imagery is just gorgeous and epic.. I think it's about letting go. He was safe in the lighthouse while the people outside were taken by the waves and the storm, and he's been trying to get over it, trying to begin anew, but he's finding it hard. He can't leave the lighthouse. | |
| Interpol – PDA Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I seriously think it's about date rape. | |
| Interpol – Rest My Chemistry Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i think it just means that he didn't know how to "just say no" so to speak, and would always take whatever was offered to him. | |
| Interpol – All Fired Up Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I love this song but I get a really creepy vibe from it, like the same sort I got from PDA. "And I can bind you with no ties and leash." "I welcome your sweethearts that bleed and break" It's like someone taking advantage and manipulating someone young and naive. Like he knows that she loves him (i can bind you with no ties) and is using her for his own pleasure. "You're all mine." Idk that's what I think. Good song, but yeah. Creepy. |

I think these lyrics are wrong after listening to the album with headphones.. I think these are closer. Spare me the suspense Spare me the suspense I got no currency, but I'm heaven sent So spare me the suspense Just spare me the suspense Hey lady wait, oh, I so hope you try You're late, babe you know it's your time And I won't let you sit by So cold in the pitch Night, alone You can't make amends No I won't let you sit by So cold in the pitch Now we should dance like two fucking twins Just spare me the suspense There are seven ancient pawn shops along the road And the seven aching daddies you may want to know Oooh, right on Hey lady rain, oh baby I can't deny I got a taste, a taste, a taste and it's time But I won’t let you sit by So cold in the pitch Night, alone You can’t make amends No, I won’t let you sit by So cold in the pitch Now it’s enough with this fucking incense Just spare me the suspense There are seven ancient pawn shops along the road Oh I know seven aging daddies you may want to know When you played your heart out It made me turn around Oooh, right on Wait, and you froze in the night You're late, there's a hole in the sky No haste, no lesson, no lie Got a taste that I can't deny |

| Interpol – The Scale Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think it's son. Like "I made you, I take you back" like a father saying he has the right to kill his son since he gave him life in the first place. | |
| Interpol – No I in Threesome Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i wish you could edit lyrics because i think that it might be "so just let us be three tonight" lol it would make sense! | |
| Interpol – No I in Threesome Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| oh and i think this is pretty obviously about being bored in a relationship and wanting to try something new. he wants to have a threesome. like he doesn't want to leave her because she has always been there for him but all they seem to do anymore is fight. but yeah i love this song. | |
| Interpol – No I in Threesome Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| by the way sorry if there are any mistakes! i did my best but if speak up if you think something is wrong. | |
| Interpol – Mammoth Lyrics | 18 years ago |

btw when paul goes "ooooh right on" my girl parts tingle. and the chorus is so hateful and passionate, definitely not typical interpol. they usuallly tend to be pretty detached but there is really a sense of rage in this. i love it. his singing has improved so much. rehab did him good |

it should be "Hey lady, wait I so hope you try You’re late, baby know it's your time" |
|
| Interpol – Rest My Chemistry Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this is a beautiful song. obviously about some young girl inspiring him to stop using drugs? | |
| Interpol – Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| it's paul that says the words, his speech is weird because he has a cigarette in his mouth. | |
| Interpol – Narc Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I love this song. To me it's about two lonely people (maybe friends) who fool themselves into thinking their sexual encounter is about love. "babe, you know me, this is alright." they're trying to justify having sex with eachother out of loneliness and sexual frustration. it isn't a healthy relationship. | |
| of Montreal – Bunny Ain't No Kind of Rider Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Wow, I thought him and Nina were still together. Do you have this on good authority? I'm suprised. | |
| of Montreal – Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i've had bipolar since i was little and i'm really thinking that's what it's about. i've been taking tons of medications and i get sick off them and i have really high moods and they give me drugs to bring me down again. mood shifts are the worst and when you're in your depressive mood you just pray for it to go back to how you were before, feeling so good. | |
| Franz Ferdinand – Mis-Shapes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| They're quite different. I love both, depending on what mood I'm in. Pulp's is a little more synth-y and upbeat. | |
| Franz Ferdinand – The Dark of the Matinee Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think I remember that Alex said Bob was the one who came up with the main idea for this song, in that he felt most comfortable and confident in the darkness of a theatre. It makes sense. That a guy would take the girl he likes there, where he doesn't have to look into her eyes. He owns the situation when they're in there. |

| Franz Ferdinand – I'm Your Villain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I'm almost sure the first part is about Bob. Especially with the fact that it was originally called "Blonde Ambition" after Michael's nickname for him. The waiter hating the rich but taking their tips and all that? Bob is the type to get really heated in debates about stuff. He's so serious. I think the "If I could laugh, I'd love you" is supposed to be him. The last line, Alex said was just referencing something a girl once told him a date of hers did. |
|
| Mindless Self Indulgence – Panty Shot Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is clearly about being attracted to a little girl, but not acting on it. "I didn't even touch her". Little girls flash their panties, and there are going to be men who love it, haha. I love this song, though. | |
