| Antony and the Johnsons – Fistful of Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| A haunting song about domestic violence/abuse. And a fucking brilliant one, at that. | |

I genereally agree with what God2005 said in his/her first post. The one strange lyric is 'The only thing that you keep changing, is your name' which inititally made me think that perhaps this is about more than one person, but about his tendency to fall in love with people he is unlikely to be with. That he keeps suffering the same pattern of infatuation and rejection over and over again. |

| Arcade Fire – In the Backseat Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Basically, what 'room101' and 'bfleety' said (and various others). The loss of a parent, and the accompanying loss of dependency on someon else to look after you, to take care of you and to make decisions for you. The pain of realising you have to grow up and become independent, and leave that child-like comfort behind. The 'backseat' metaphor is perfect, though, and the lyrics are just so effective: concise, but beautiful. |

| Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #2 (Laika) Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I think the 'Laika' reference is definitely significant. My guess, like others, is that this is about a family member who has some sort of problem that the parents can't come to terms with. I read the child-like references as more a sarcastic way of retropsectively criticising the parents for abandoning him, instead of helping him. |

| Arcade Fire – Rebellion (Lies) Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I tend to agree with what 'maloof' said on the first page of the comments. It seems to be about the difficulty of rebelling without distancing yourself from family and perhaps and friends. "Come on hide your lovers underneath the covers.." Hidin' from your brothers underneath the covers, It seems he has had to lie to people close to him, and he feels guilty somehow, but just pained that he has to lie to be happy. 'Every time you close your eyes, LIES, LIES!' It seems to me quite similar to Neighborhood #1 in its reflection on having to live a 'secret' life. |
