| The Foxboro Hot Tubs – Red Tide Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is my least favorite song on the record, but I totally agree with the above assessments here. Loosely translated, the narrator is asking, "You still love me, even if you're a bitch for a while, right?" |
| The Foxboro Hot Tubs – Mother Mary Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I can see the 420 connection here, but it's true that the character Mary was mentioned in another song. That could detach this song from the rest, sort of. The lyrics on this album seem to follow a story the way American Idiot did, though a bit more loosely. | |
| The Foxboro Hot Tubs – Ruby Room Lyrics | 17 years ago |
To MissNeurotic- http://www.posthoc.com/rubyroom.htm I wonder if this is about a girl the narrator is interested in? Sacking up and heading to the place where he always sees her. He knows that she could be bad news, but wants to find out for himself. |
| Thrice – Don't Tell And We Won't Ask Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I know it doesn't fit the context of the song, but does anyone else feel that the line, "Drink from this cup, a better life awaits us all" could be an obscure reference to the Heaven's Gate cult? I'm assuming it has to do with greed and corporate pigs sipping that proverbial Kool-Aid, I just wanted to throw that variable out there. |
| Finch – Dreams Of Psilocybin Lyrics | 19 years ago |
There is a world of difference between education and enlightenment. The first and only shroom trip I've experience was very interesting. I didn't learn anything, per se; there were some things going on in my life at the time for which I gained a much different perspective. All I'm saying is that it can and will cause you to see things from different angles. |
| Denver Harbor – Way Back Home Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| For the last two weeks, this song has been on repeat. It's therapeutic. | |
| I Am the Avalanche – Green Eyes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Wow. Reading these lyrics again basically sums up the last seven days for me. Her green eyes, my blues. The only difference is she didn't run to the west coast. She only wanted to. | |
| Finch – Gak 2 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Some of these lyrics don't sound right either. This is what they sound like to me- Spark of sulfur ignites The remnants of tonight Space still echoes the solitude of white What you're after may not Shine so bright Midnight concealing all of these lies Blood from beneath the skin It's just a voice calling Don't want to hear it, don't want to make a sound If you catch me now then I'll see you in hell If you make amends, will you make it back? And if you have the time, will you crack a smile? This is only a test to prove you're innocent Take the pill that you don't mind, to satisfy Swallow every nickel and dime He pushed his way into the space between his broken self Now he just stands here waiting Waiting Blood from beneath the skin It's just a voice calling Don't want to hear it, don't want to make a sound If you catch me now, I'm crawling back from hell Mayday |
| Finch – Gak 2 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Good song. Fucked if I know what it means, but good song. | |
| Fizzy Bangers – Short Attention Span Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| They do have at least one other song recorded and documented, on "The Glam That Stole Christmas" compilation. | |
| Simple Plan – Perfect World Lyrics | 19 years ago |
to jemesouviens- That comment you directed at punkrawker07....was that really necessary? I was just checking out his/her other comments, and a lot of them were on Simple Plan songs. They were all positive, and didn't seem the least bit sarcastic. So where do you get that he/she is bashing them? Well so as not to waste space in this thread with a comment that has nothing to do with the song...I haven't seen the DVD so I have no idea what Chuck or Pierre said about it. The impression I got when I first heard it was that it was about finality in all senses of the word. Breakup, death, etc. |
| The Network – Reto Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Reto is also rumored to be one of the unidentified members (synths) of the band, either Z or Captain Underpants, as well as engineer on Green Day's American Idiot album. | |
| Weird Al Yankovic – Pretty Fly For A Rabbi Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Weird Al makes me smile, this song is just freakin hilarious. If anyone's interested, here's a link to translations for all the Yiddish words and phrases. http://www.com-www.com/weirdal/translations-rabbi.html |
| Fenix TX – Telefornication Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| They both need to figure out what hardcore is before you put this band into that genre. | |
| The Offspring – Don't Pick It Up Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Again, I love the Offspring's jokey songs. There are two big things in the meaning of this song for me. 1. It's an admonishment, a warning against doing things you shouldn't be doing. Basically what he's saying is that if you have any doubts, then don't do it. 2. It's a total rip on the ska kids. |
| The Offspring – Me & My Old Lady Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I really feel like the long and short of this song is a relationship based purely on sex and lust. Maybe they believe in love, or the idea of love. Neither of them believes that the other really truly loves them. But who gives a fuck? She's still a wildcat in the sack and she's not looking for anything more. She's the perfect woman if you ask me. | |
| The Offspring – Hit That Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Hahaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Bastard children. And promescuity. |
| The Offspring – Lightning Rod Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Whenever something goes horribly wrong, it all comes back to him. The first commentor on this song hit the nail on the head. This song is about feeling as if you're surrounded by the enemy, like the whole world is on the other side. | |
| The Offspring – Neocon Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Liberals will only use violence as a last resort. This sounds like it was written by someone who doesn't really take a hard left or right stance. | |
| The Offspring – (Can't Get My) Head Around You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Yeah these lyrics are pretty self-explanatory. It sucks when you can't figure out why someone is so dumb. | |
| The Offspring – Da Hui Lyrics | 19 years ago |
No, the phrase isn't "Hollywood whore." The word "haole" is Hawaiian and is used as sort of a racial epithet toward white people. I think the sentiment Dexter is trying to express is that because he's a white guy, he'll never be as good a surfer as the Da Hui. I love this song, I love all their fast-paced stuff. |
| The Offspring – Race Against Myself Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is probably the song I enjoy the least on Splinter. It's still a decent song, but I like the lyrical content more than the music. The chorus has a nice hook, though. So, to reiterate what everyone else has already said: it's about taking so much of so many different kinds of abuse that eventually the only thing you're fighting for is your own sanity. | |
| The Offspring – Spare Me the Details Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"..and I don't need to hear about how long it was taking." Yep, fuckin cheating whores. Poor guy, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. |
| The Offspring – The Worst Hangover Ever Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I like their jokier songs. There's nothing wrong with write a nice, somewhat mellow tune about a skull-rattling hangover. | |
| The Offspring – Never Gonna Find Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Dexter's being forced to hide his true self to keep up appearances and/or satisfy another. | |
| The Offspring – Long Way Home Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Life is best lived when you're allowed to live the way you want to." No one could have possibly put that any better. |
| The Offspring – The Noose Lyrics | 19 years ago |
dsgrntld187 was asking about the line in the chorus that says "...and all my friends are crawling." I don't know if there is any meaning to extract from that, other than a reference to the previous line. But then again, maybe it does. When put together, those two lines could be taken to mean that extremely difficult times have befallen us, and we as regular American citizens are trying our best to live our lives the way we intend to, despite all of that. If you want to take it literally, we're just crawling underneath the noose to keep from getting hanged. |
| Gone Baby Gone – Always Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This band just...doesn't do it for me. | |
| AFI – Endlessly, She Said Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Marchand? oo..I always thought his name was David Merchant. That's good to know. | |
| AFI – Kill Caustic Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Decemberunderground is awesome, You only wish the Clash sucked." Hehe. This song is fantastic, the best off of DU. I wish I had some clue what it meant. |
| Finch – Brit Pop Lyrics | 19 years ago |
When this song was originally released with these lyrics above, it was labeled 'Brit Pop'. The final version that made it on the album is now called 'Insomniatic Meat'. And though I've never heard it and don't know anyone who had, they demoed a song called 'Mushroom Party' which ended up being 'Dreams of Psilocybin'. |
| AFI – Girl's Not Grey Lyrics | 19 years ago |
oh yea, in response to MarkDePace: where do you get 'manufactured' out of a band that was formed by teenagers who could barely play their instruments 15 years ago? this band is AFI. Garbage is the band with the Irish chick singing. the sound is emulated and replicated by other bands because it's good, and fairly original. you asshat. |
| AFI – Girl's Not Grey Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i find it interesting that there are so many comments on this song opining that davey would never write about death. this entire album is, in fact, written around the concepts of death and rebirth. check out the theories on 336/337. while i don't know the meaning behind this lyrics myself, it's entirely possible that they have to do some kind of "death." |
| I Am the Avalanche – Green Eyes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i figured the line was '20 holes' in reference to piercings. seems like the type of girl vinnie would go for. | |
| Bush – Machinehead Lyrics | 20 years ago |
ok check this out- i work for a shipping company in boston. i deal mostly with europe and areas just outside it. anyway, in the lyrics the line is, "bleeding through an okay smile." however, i noticed this morning that i was sending something to a town/city called Torquay in the UK. is it possible that Gavin is making a regional reference in saying, "bleeding through a Torquay smile"? maybe, just maybe? |
| Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| well then it was record of the year. for boulevard. | |
| Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| no it was this song, which in my eyes makes it worse. i'd rather they would have won for american idiot as a single. | |
| Matisyahu – King Without A Crown Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i have to say that reading some of the posts in thread is rather infuriating. this man is basically baring his soul to his fans, and everyone else dismisses his religious beliefs as a gimmick. that's absolutely sickening. the yarmulke and the beard aren't props, they're a standard in hasidic judaism. on top of all this, he's a phenomenal talent. long story short, go do some research before you judge someone like that. | |
| Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| actually, they didn't win album of the year. that went to U2. they won record of the year, which means single. for boulevard. not for the american idiot album. | |
| Kenna – Freetime Lyrics | 20 years ago |
myke like music. kenna make music. this sounds to me like kenna is trying to break out of a stifling relationship. all his is consumed by this one person, despite his best efforts to shut them out. |
| Green Day – Prosthetic Head Lyrics | 20 years ago |
i agree that the "red-blooded a mannequin" line is a perfect play on words. it sums up a large portion of american culture. this song to me talks about fakes and phonies. they're all over the place. and i feel like the 'down on the frontline' phrase refers to those who are in consistently in the public eye. |
| Green Day – Letterbomb Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| to 'humma': i didn't read the whole thread so this may or may not have been covered already but...the underbelly line kinds of reminds me of the JoS video. just a whole bunch of kids living under the bridge, like Jimmy's street punk personality. whatsername is in her letter trying to get him to understand where his life is going, what it's coming to in light of his (Jesus') delusions, and that this isn't really him. | |
| Fenix TX – Flight 601 (All I've Got Is Time) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
haha i believe silverchair already claimed "anthem for 2000" status. i dig this song much more, though. as for meaning, this sounds like will keeps giving second chances to someone who takes him for granted. or maybe not, i don't know. they don't sound like very deep lyrics. |
| Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"by the way rage.love (your name SUCKS) why the hell is a 20 something year old man picking on a teenage girl for her opinions? have you got nothing better to do? SADDO" and who is a 14-year-old girl who seemingly knows next to nothing about music to tell me what the stuff of legends is? i can only HOPE that you lose interest in green day because that's one less bandwagon-hopper i have to worry about flooding the world around me with their t-shirts even though they are "pathetic wannabes." i wasn't attacking your opinions, you did a good enough job of that on your own. first comment: green day are one of the best, but i'm bored of them. second comment: nothing compared to the likes of nirvana and my chemical romance. third comment: you attack my NAME? listen little girl, nirvana are legends because kurt put a bullet in his head. nevermind was released months before you were born. my chemical romance have done nothing more than put out two decent albums in the span of four years. wow, my socks have been completely knocked off. you have some nerve bringing age into the discussion. i fail to see how my being of drinking has anything to do with you being a teenager. if you knew half as much as your mindless spewing implied, then i wouldn't have anything to say. ie- it's not because you're a teenage, it's because you're an idiot that's probably just regurgitating things you overheard older people say. kindly cease contributing to this thread. |
| NOFX – The Moron Brothers Lyrics | 20 years ago |
nothing@all....i'm sorry, but that post is wrong on most counts. tim armstrong is rancid's vocalist, yes. one of them. billie joe armstrong is green day's vocalist. no hyphen, no 'Y'. and they are absolutely NOT brothers. whoever told you that was lying to you. |
| Green Day – The Ballad of Wilhelm Fink Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"so eminem has slim shady billie joe has willhelm fink and the devil has george bush Everything is finally in place " spot on, spot on. |
| AFI – Halloween (Misfits cover) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
i think "non-existent cock" translates to "vagina." by the way, this song rocks my pants off. |
| Denver Harbor – Picture Perfect Wannabe Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| if this isn't about today's copycat bands, then i'm infinitely clueless. | |
| Ash – Jack Names The Planets Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| the general consensus on the interweb is that the word in question is "Nufenap." but there isn't any information beyond that; no insight as to where the audio clip came from or who the gentlemen are that are speaking. it's a mystery. | |
| Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams Lyrics | 20 years ago |
you should be sorry, because it's still two words. greenday does not exist. and am i mistaken, or did you imply that my chemical romance are legends? legends, after two albums? legends, after SUPPORTING green day? if my memory serves me correctly, mcr are not that far removed from their own first headlining tour. who are you calling wannabes? i would say judging by 22 pages of comments for this song alone, i would say that yes, green day have plenty of fans. your arguments (and typing skills) are about as solid as a minestrone stool sample. |
