Could it be about his friend getting depressed and maybe self-harmig? With the lines like "dont ever do that again, never end it" maybe meaning dont ever cut urself again, and never kill yourself? This song really means a lot to me cuz thats the situation I'm in with a friend. I love that its about friendship love rather than physical attraction. |

i usually cant stand this poppy techno stuff but this song always makes me wanna cry!!! i think its cuz of the 9/11 remix they did of it, with a little girls voice-over talkin bout her daddy who died in the attacks.

well this may sound odd but i saw something about a clarinet teacher in the 'latest comment' box n decided to click on it and it took me to this song, and after reading all your comments i decided i had to hear the song so i looked it up. its really not my type of music at all, i'm more into heavy rock, punk n metal, but i can see what u mean about it. it is very relaxing and beautiful. anyway my opinion probably doesnt matter to you lot much since i dont even like this style of music but yeah. i'll shut up now. |

i like the way one line runs into another, it happens twice in the song:
"betray my short attention SPAN the distance"
"it always seemed too far to DRIVE the point home"
notice how the words in capital letters form the end of one sentence and the beginning of another - if u get me. |

i reckon the songs about kurt, just how i interpret it. even tho i was only a lil kid when kurt died i'm a huge fan n i really respect his legacy.
i agree with foetus' take on the song, but theres one thing i wanna add: when it says 'use that evidence, race it around' could he be talkin bout findin out whether it was suicide or murder? and 'race it around' could mean show everyone the evidence cuz if there has been a miscarriage of justice it shouldnt be hushed up? i dunno |

i loooove the imagery in this song like the city lights burning like a thousand miles of fire. it makes me think of standing on a rooftop lookin out over the night-time city (like most ppl have said)
for some reason, it makes me think the 'dying day' is the death of our whole society. like wanting the tide to swallow every inch of the city, and we're gasping for breath cuz the world's in such a mess. and he'd scream the song in our faces to try n get us to see how bad its got. But he knows we wont take any notice cuz when he says he's pouring his heart onto the rooftops, its like, the rooftops are just echoing his words back at him and nobody below is actually hearing. and the stars are crying because of wat a mess we're in... yeah, i guess i've made my point. |

this song was the first STP song i heard. i was already a fan of velvet revolver (scott's new band) and i didnt even recognise his voice till i actually saw him in the video - i love his voice in this song, i wish he sang like this on more VR songs! I also heard it was about a rape victim but paraphrase for something else, so yeah. not much new to add there. |

This is one of my favourite songs by The Used. Its about love, and i think the opening riff is just sooo beautiful. I love it when Bert sings 'of course i'll ask for help...' It takes my breath away every time i hear it ^_^ |
