Nirvana – The Man Who Sold the World (David Bowie cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree with Truthspeaker, Nirvana made the song theirs. I actually prefer the cover to the original. There's something in the Nirvana version that connected with me, unlike the Bowie original. Good song either way.

David Banner – Play Lyrics 19 years ago
> Catch it in your mouth, like your last name Moss

Yeah, I'm guessing he meant Randy Moss, the football player.

I never realized how dirty this song is. Lol.

Fastball – The Way Lyrics 19 years ago
I love this song because it reminds me of high school. I didn't actually find out it was about an elderly couple driving off a cliff until that VH1 special.

Garbage – Thirteen Lyrics 19 years ago
I'd never heard this version before, but I like it. I still like the Elliott Smith and Wilco versions the best, but this is a good one too.

Garbage – Can't Seem To Make You Mine Lyrics 19 years ago
I think it's a cover of a Ramones song.

Ooops I didn't see the previous comment.

I do like this song.

Secret Machines – Nowhere Again Lyrics 19 years ago
I think "cellophane flowers" is a reference to Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.

"Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
And she's gone"

Kings of Convenience – Once Around The Block Lyrics 19 years ago
Kings of Convenience did a cover of this song? I need to find it. I adore the Badly Drawn Boy original.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't hate the old singer's voice?

Sufjan Stevens – To Be Alone with You Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm not a Christian (Jew in the house!) and *I* think this song is about Jesus. Specifically someone who has had some sort of disconnect with Jesus or God or the church, and wants to find his or her way back to them.

Sufjan Stevens – Detroit, Lift Up Your Weary Head! (Restore! Rebuild! Reconsider!) Lyrics 19 years ago
>People Mover: Bad Decision.

AND HOW!

>"Tigers game / Eighty-four" makes me grin like crazy every time, though >that too can be seen as a symbol of Detroit's decline- from World Series >champions to the Tigers of today.

Hey, they Tigers are in first place now! Heh.

Taking Back Sunday – There's No 'I' In Team Lyrics 20 years ago
my 2¢:

i think "cute without the e" is to the girl john and jesse were both with, and i think "there's no i in team" is john-to-jesse.

when he say [Don't believe me when I tell you, \ "it's just what anyone would do"] i don't think he's talking about sleeping with jesse's girlfriend because she's easy, as someone suggested. i think he's talking about actually telling jesse what he did. i think he's saying that being honest about it is what anyone would do, not the actual sleeping with the "easy' girlfriend.

i think a lot of people want to see the song for its face value, but i think really it's about the two men's friendship rather than the girl. like i said before, i think the song about/for the girl was "cute without the e" and this is the one for jesse.

just my 2¢.

Brand New – Okay I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't Lyrics 20 years ago
the title of the album itself is meant to be sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek (according to an interview in AP magazine with the band in 2003) so maybe it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that the song is also tongue-in-cheek?
