She's on the left hand path and it will never lead anywhere, only to a place where stores are closed, and she's fooling herself, she won't be able to buy anything. I'm not saying I believe the same thing as these guys did, but That's how i've interepted the song. The hope spoken of is FALSE hope. |

The two roads you can go by refers to the left hand path versus the right hand path, in mysticism... The right hand path respects taboos and tries to become closer to god. the left tries become divinities in their own right. Anyways it's an allagory to how the stairway to heaven never actually gets to heaven, the only way is on jacob's ladder. You should really read your bibles more.... |

Maynard points out that organized religion isn't the answer, but people accuse him of bieng a "Worthless liar" he calls for soberity and reason only to be slapped in the face of people who refuse all reason "Why can't we not be sober?" | has anyone focused on it from the standpoint of the seperation jesus christ from the churches which currently exist? If you think about in on christian raido every morning we are bombarded with crap about how we should invade iraq, should have nuked it into the black earth it "Really deserves" And Yet christ himself said that "Blessed are the peacemakers" which further means that ALL Wars are wrong, and that the war makers are cursed. just think about the billions of things jesus said, and the differences between his words and the words of the bible itself, and the in the whole picture, the denominations at large. The deception probably started with Paul, who corrupted jesus's entire message. remember, jesus said that if you wanted to get into heaven you must love your neighbor as yourself and do good things unto men, yet paul made it as simple as beleiving in jesus as saviour. inspite of this great deception the whole piece will be sweeter in the end because of it. The oppositon of pure evil and pure good is a good thing, don't you think that as a follower of christ your word is worthless if you haven't seen or been tempted by the lures of the opposite? How many people inside this great deception are really aware of the deception itself, and even paul and satan did god favors by showing men the difference between good and evil, so are they really to blame? I don't know, if we're going to go down a religous standpoint, I think we aught to look further back than when we had one giant denomination. | |

Read up on the chinese yin/yang. No good is absolutely good. Empires seems already to be a slap in the face about how our current gods are merely the same hero's as before retold a new way, it's a way of saying "you think you've changed but you're exactly the same, exactly as corrupt, exactly as evil." VNV is spiritual, you're all right on that. But honestly, their spiritual in the sense that they're preachers of a Divinity that is NUETRAL. not "Good" not "Evil" but respects everything as it is. |

| To me none of these definitons go nearly far enough. everything on the praise the fallen album has to be taken into account with the rest of the cd. That's already been mentioned though. Especially when mixing this one with solitude I get the impression that VNV isn't preaching just the battle of good and evil-but a whole third front which acts against both of them. All i've heard from his desire to forget the past seems to scream that all leaders (including god) who have come before us have misguided us...look at where he says "for heaven or hell we shall not wait." this song is all about taking salvation into your own hands, and not letting god or the devil dictate that to you. To not do this would be a slap in the face to all of those who died for freedom, because with god there is no freedom, we will have our fate's decided for us. He's saying that we are beyond god to truely fix things the way we want it to be fixed. this song is all about what happens as the end begins as prophecizded in 2012. all of this album very lightly seems to hint on a human driven resistance to both god and satan, though he never seems to come out directly and say it. | |
