despite having listened to this song seemingly thousands of times over, i still to this day shudder at how deeply moved and touched i am when i hear it. i can't even begin to explain how real this song is to me. i'd go so far as to say that this song has defined the component of my being that has been the last year and a half of my life. be it trips up and down I-81 through the passes of the appalachian to catch her between classes or struggling to make room in the small interior of my gray coupe, the subject matter of this song represents nothing shy of a literal reality for me. i offered this song to her as a lead in to many others on a cd she received as one of several goodbye gifts. an homage of sorts to how life once was for us as... presented as way to wish her well prior to months of overseas travel that was destined to be the end of us... perhaps more appropriately presented as a plea that she never forget. the aural beginnings of a multi-faceted goodbye that in many ways, i'm still saying. ...evidenced, even, by this very effort. |
