| Cradle of Filth – Funeral In Carpathia (Dusk And Her Embrace Version) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"And Erudite Stranger, I dont see Dracula in this song at all......" "Supreme Vampiric Evil" |
| Cradle of Filth – Her Ghost In The Fog Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Most overrated Cradle of Filth song. This is usually the song that the mallcore kids say "lured me to Cradle of Filth." Either that or the edited part of Nymphetamine. But at least Nymphetamine's a kickass song. Her Ghost in the For is merely okay, I think people say they like it because it was a video. I have similar feelings towards From the Cradle to Enslave. | |
| Cradle of Filth – Swansong for a Raven Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think Her Ghost in the Fog is the most overrated Cradle of Filth song. I find it only to be okay, but I can name 20 COF songs that are better at least. Between it and Swansong, one of the better COF songs, I take Swansong in a heartbeat. | |
| Cradle of Filth – Malice Through The Looking Glass Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| If it's on Dusk and Her Embrace, It's about Elizabeth Bathory. | |
| Cradle of Filth – Satyriasis Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Whats great about this. Satyriasis is an abnormal sexual appetite in males. Now whats great about that is he mixes the title with Les Litanies De Satan. What it does is it assosiates sex as a bestial thing, that goes in line with the devil. A very common tactic of the Catholic Church. It's a very interesting concept. |
| Cradle of Filth – The Black Goddess Rises Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Has anyone ever looked at The Principle of Evil Made Flesh album, and see how Dani has on a shirt that says "The Black Goddess Rises" that almost is on the precise same latitude as the song title listed on the back? I think this was an awful album but this was the only good song on it. |
| Cradle of Filth – Cthulhu Dawn Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Actually, Cthulhu is a fucked-up spelling of Kutulu. Sumerian: Kutu=Underworld Lu=Man. Kutulu is believed to be the equivalent of the god Absu, the husband of Tiamat. The Sumerian Mythology is true, and it may have inspired Lovecraft, but it's completely independent of the song. Dani clearly is writing about Cthulhu from the Cthulhu Mythos. |
| Mushroomhead – The New Cult King Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| It's about religion. It's saying it's like a fad. Right now Jesus is the fad, sooner or later there will be another futile fad, and everyone will follow. It's like comparing religion to Pokemon. It's in one year, but then it becomes dated. | |
| Mushroomhead – Bwomp Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I lost all interest in Mushroomhead when J Mann left. I think this song is about the lack of justice in punishment. Example things like giving kids the death penalty for killing his abusive dad, compared to the big whig Presedents who kill millions in war. Using that logic, compared to the big whig's, Mansons a panzy and should be freed. Drug Dealing. punishment of the addict and not the dealer. "We have to seperate the users, from the whores" |
| Mushroomhead – Solitaire Unraveling Lyrics | 20 years ago |
OMG to that first guy, your right..... It's about people on death row. Holy shit, it all makes sense now |
| Shadows Fall – Destroyer Of Senses Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This song is about his dad who had an alcohol problem, and it's about the process of alcohol. "Giver of life, Destroyer of Senses" "Watch me falling from this straight and narrow line" A sobriety test. |
| Suzanne Vega – Tom's Diner Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Tom's diner is a Diner on the upper west side of New York that was popular shooting for the Tv show Seinfeld. Vega has admitted to writing this song while she was eating at the establishment. The song is just about her time spent in there. Thats all it means. I've also met Suzeanne Vega personally, and this song has gone through an interesting turn of events. It was bootlegged by DNA without her permssion, she originally wrote it as an acapella. |
| Marc Cohn – Walking In Memphis Lyrics | 20 years ago |
It's about a spiritual awakening for Marc Cohn. It's about him touring around Tennessee and Tunica and revisiting landmark sites in blues and rock and embracing the significance. Muriel I've heard was an actual performer at Hollywood, which is Tunica. She's dead now though. And yeah, WC Handy, godfather of BLues, wrote Beale Street Blues at The Beale Street clubs. So walking ten feet off the Beale would be the street which is a musical landmark. Blue Suede Shoes is a reference to the guy who wrote the song, not Elvis. I forgot his name, but Elvis basically purchased the rights from him and performed it. |
| Dark Tranquillity – Therein Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I can't really find a meaning. It is a great song. I think part of the problem could be it's a Swedish band writing in English which is the problem with Scandinavian metal bands. They conform to English and songwriting becomes much more difficult. |
| Tool – Aenema Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is about LA breaking off from the continent and drowning because it's an evil city. But Maynard "can swim." | |
| Tool – Forty Six & 2 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Yes, it's about humans getting more chromozomes and evolving, a Jungian theory. However, Downs Syndrome is what happens when you have one extra chromozome. And thats just one extra chromozome. 2 would just as likely make you black, give you a mongoloid face, and make you sound like a dying giraffe as it would make you a higher functioning being. |
| Tool – Schism Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I believe the common belief is this song is about the denominations of the Catholic churches, and how theiir feuding increases the seperation. BTW, a schism is literally a dessention from the church. |
| Tool – Die Eier Von Satan Lyrics | 20 years ago |
The whole story. At the time, man people were saying Maynard was only writing what he knew what would sell. You know with all the crap about Jung and human evolution and crazy shit. So he decided to write something so random, it would silence the critics.......... So he decided to share a recipe for German Hash cookies, recited in German. |
| Cradle of Filth – Nymphetamine Overdose Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I can't possibly add anything more to this. I was very upset that they didn't have Sarah on the Overdose track. She's much better than that ugly, grandma looking bleach white blonde girl. |
| Cradle of Filth – Dusk And Her Embrace Lyrics | 20 years ago |
WTF is Malaresian? I cannot even find it in the dictionary. In my lifetime I must have come across over a dozen words Dani has used I cannot find in the dictionary. Ereshkegal I know is a Sumerian goddess of the Earth. The literal translation is "Great Lady Earth." Yet again, another song about Dani proclaiming his post rigor mortis love of Elizabeth Bathory. |
| Cradle of Filth – Nemesis Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Terrorism. Ridiculous. | |
| Cradle of Filth – Nemesis Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This is easy. It's about the Greek goddess Nemesis. The Goddess of Vengeance, and her role in the Trojan War. It's not about enemies, not about terroism (OMG DO YOU EVEN LISTEN TO CRADLE OF FILTH!!!) not about fathers losing there daughters (although Nemesis herself goes through an equivocal loss), it's about the Nemesis herself. It's a very common mistake to confuse the title of the song as to the anglicized, Nemesis meaning enemy. It gives it away clearly with, A swansong for Leda (LEda was concieved by Zeus disquised as a swan), deathknell for troy. (Helen being Troys deathknell). Tragedy blossomed in one act (the Iliad), I am Nemesis. Nemesis plays a key role in the story. They killed the song. This could have been a masterpecie. It's the same song repeated twice. But the ending is the best song ending I've ever heard. But this song should've been sliced in half or it should have used different riffs. |
| Cradle of Filth – A Gothic Romance (Red Roses for the Devil's Whore) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
COF writes concept albums. All the songs on one album revolve around one plot. Midian is monsters, Nymphetamine about classic and cliche addictions, Dusk and her Embrace appears to be a Bathory fest. I think Dani is making a "portrait of the dead countess." I think he's telling us that Elizabeth Bathory is his dream girl. This is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time, every single song is an epic, even the interludes are great! |
| Cradle of Filth – Funeral In Carpathia (Dusk And Her Embrace Version) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Wait a minute? According to who Dracula lived in the Carpathian mountains? Bram Stoker, or did Vlad Tepes live there. OMG this songs starting to come together now. Okay, my guess now is this song is about the death of Elizabeth Bathory, as about 1/4 of all Cradle songs are about. |
| Cradle of Filth – English Fire Lyrics | 20 years ago |
WORST CRADLE OF FILTH SONG EVER. NYMPHETAMINE HAS MY 3 LEAST FAVORIT SONGS ON IT. FILTHY LITTLE SECRET, GILDED CUNT, AND ENGLISH FIRE. S U C K SUCK SUCK SUCK |
| Cradle of Filth – Cthulhu Dawn Lyrics | 20 years ago |
It's pronounced K THUL HLOO, but Cthulhu is one of many spellings, the most accurate in my opinion. It's from Lovecrafts Cthulhu mythos. This song is what inspired me to read Lovecraft. OMG these people and the Cthulhu presidential campaigns are cracking me up. |
| Cradle of Filth – Coffin Fodder Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Fodder is also often used to describe something of poor calibur. Example, the pitchers changeup was batting fodder. Or... the innovating ideas set forth by the author are trash to mainstream world who view him as the village idiot. I'm taking a shot in the dark. I think this is about guys with innovating ideas but the mainstream academics just dismiss them by means of Reducto Ad Absurdem. Despite there rebuke's, if you stick to your ideas history will reward you. |
| Cradle of Filth – Gilded Cunt Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I agree with Kandy. This isn't about the pope? This is a concept album. The concept being this time nymphetamine. An addiction, primarilly to feminine archetypes, and classical beauty. The pope is a conservative fart who doesn't even like cunt. That has nothing to do with the other songs about desire, unrequited love, etc. When I hear this song, I immediately think like, "the Plastics," from the movie mean girls for some reason. |
| Cradle of Filth – Gabrielle Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think the fact the song is called Gabrielle is irrelavent. IT just happens to be the name of the girl, like in Saffrons curse. The girl is just named Saffron. I think it's Dani probably writing about some girl he had a crush on in high school who didn't requite the affection. I really don't see anything that suggest otherwise. Very mediocre song, but for a guy with girl problems, the lyrics leave a resonating mark upon me. |
| Cradle of Filth – Bathory Aria: Benighted Like Usher/A Murder of Ravens in Fugue/Eyes That Witnessed Madness Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I love how this song ends with the qoute. Unlike other Cradle songs, this song is 8+ minutes but doesn't repeat riffs and damage the song with it's length. Nemesis is a prime example. For the record, I've no pity for Elizabeth Bathory. The Bitch was lucky enough to have a husband, lucky enough to live in a time where rich white people can exploit their fetishes at the expense of the proletariat commoner virgins, no matter how lascivious. I've never had a Girlfriend and I'm almost 17, if I did what I wanted in terms of sexual endeavors, I'd be in jail and getting my ass fucked everytime I dropped the soap. Dani having a GF of 10 years and a family couldn't possily understand that there are many more significant and less romantically fortunate people in this world, deserving of his sympathy. |
| Cradle of Filth – From The Cradle To Enslave Lyrics | 20 years ago |
The year this song came out? 1999. 2000 fattened years like maniacs. 2000 years since the first coming. Now what Necrophagus second coming backs from the Cradle to Enslave. This song is a harbinger of Armageddon which was like one year away at the time. This is the gothic Y2K song. It's not my favorite Cradle song, but one of my favorite videos. I've never seen a music video more graphic! It pushes the envelope so much it just makes it so good. FYI, somehow Dani says the torture room is a reference to Terry Gilliams Brazil, which I've never seen, but I can't see how the Monty Pythoner, and short one who screams like wounded animal, comingle. |
| Cradle of Filth – Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I don't think this is a Bathory influenced song. I believe the passage "more. Whore. More" could be from a Marquis De Sade novel. Clearly the perpetrator of the ravaging of virgins is a man. "Ridden Split-Thighed by the father of lies" and "HAcked and racked backwards, menses choking their pleas." These are male dominant sexual positions. | |
| Cradle of Filth – Saffron's Curse Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| To Bella Morte, the obstacle being the "possesion." | |
| Cradle of Filth – Saffron's Curse Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Sure. "I splintered her coffin and lay on the shore, on the vault with the clasp while the moon hugs the shore." Around 4 mins and 10 seconds into the song. He finds his girlfriend slits her wrists, dead. Describes how fated they were, and the obstacles in front of them. Wants her back, and his wanting of her is haunting him. This could have been my favorite song of all time if they just ended the damned song at 5 minutes while going back to the prior riff. Still a kickass song nonethelss. |
| Cradle of Filth – Funeral In Carpathia Lyrics | 20 years ago |
WTF is this song about? WTF is Carpathia? It was the ship that rescued all the survivors of the Titanic, but that doesn't sound like something Dani would right about. Why write about saving life, when you can write about taking the lives of young virgins and drinking their blood? It's also a Mountain range in Eastern Europe. The Carpathian mountains. |
| Cradle of Filth – Absinthe with Faust Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This is real simple. It's a retelling of the story of Faust through the eyes of a vampyric wannabe psychopath with a masters degree in English aka Dani Filth. Mephistopholes is the demon that Faust sold his soul to in order for him to make gold. It's a classic German epic. He touched the stars, that now laugh from afar. He achieved greatness for alchemy but the damnation of losing his soul was threefold times worse. This is definetly one of my favorite Cradle songs, along with songs of all time. |
