does anyone else think this song could be about a pregnancy? specifically a miscarrage? lines like 'I don't want to lose her' and 'I know right now honey that it's in god's hands, but I don't know who the father is' make me think that. also the reference of being wrapped in a papoose. in her book i think she said she was lost a baby during the making of this album. anyone agree/disagree? |

i know in greek mythology that Persephone was abducted and possibly raped by hades. i think tori sees her as a kind of helpless victim figure, so by saying 'Boy I think you're confused, I'm not Persephone' shes telling someone that although she has been abused by certain men, that isnt who she is - shes refusing to remain the victim. |

i really love this 'Y Kant Tori Read' song! its pure overdone 80s but it works so well. the lyrics are pretty self explanatory - which is rare for tori - but its a great song. three cheers for her failed glam rock phase! |

omg why has no one commented on this song yet?! its amazing!! one of the best on the original 'boys for Pele album' though i dont think its on all editions. i think its about her looking for guys to give her what she needs in relationships. the 'springtime of his voodoo' refers to that magic/spark there is when you just start out with someone ('the springtime' being the new start with that person, as its the start of the new cycle of the earth) when anything seems possible and its full of potential. however she sees him as being the key to the magik ('HIS voodoo') so inevitably it doesnt work and shes left lamenting all they could have shared - 'He was going to show me spring'. jmo...maybe im reading too much into it lol. |

technically this is from her years in the band 'Y Kant Tori Read' not tori amos solo, but iv heard she does sometimes sing it in concert. but anyway its the best song on that cd (and the only one tori still likes!). from what i gather its about someone who is being mistreated in a relationship, maybe from the other party not commiting or not giving emotional support, but she still desperatly wants to stay together. any other ideas? |

this is such a funny song! its just about those girls that you meet at clubs and stuff who think they're gonna meet the man of their dreams by having one night stands. the singers gently making fun of women who are really to old to be acting like this, and the concept of 'fuck me pumps'. not really meant to be taken seriously - but amy winehouse is very witty with her lyrics |

this seems a really dark song, for tracy at least. to me it seems it could be about a rape or some other violation because there seems to be that mix of sexuality ('let me be tempted') and violence ('leave my body with permanent marks'). but in the last verse it does seem like she enjoys whatever is happening, even though she claims to not want to know about 'The things some do in the dark'. |
