| David Bowie – Be My Wife Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Uh, he was an insane drug addict, actually he was in the proces of cleaning up and this is what a lot of the this album and the whole Berlin Trilogy was all about. I personally love this entire album, I just bought it on LP - great sound. At first I thought the album was a bit flawed because side one and side two seem not to fit into together that well - side one is up beat and more similar to his other work, whereas side two is more low, downbeat and true to the whole mood he was trying to create. However when you listen to the whole thing front to back you understand the mood he is creating, the album decents to lower, tones and feeling as it progresses - the themes are a spiral of thought and emotion, perhaps ecclectic, but perhaps that was intended and in my opinion makes the album better as human though is often ecclectic and moods go up and down and are often weird and not linear. |

I read somewhere that Seventeen Seconds was about a broken romance. I definately can see that. This song, however, means something deeper and less specific to me. It about the age old theme of human rationality conflicting with human emotion. The opening line alludes to the assumption of human rationality that was attacked by the romantic movement. fort exmaple romantic literature such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The opening line "It's not a case of doing what's right It's just the way I feel that matters" alludes to one of societies greatest and oldest problems - the belief in morality, fairness and justice when human actions are guided largely by animal-like base instincts like sexual desire, deire to dominate - like what Freud said, we would be ashamed if we could see what our unconscious desired. The message of song for me is that often human beings are frustrated at this and often feel a selfishness and crude desire to solely gratify. |

I think everyone above has made good points. I just have to say this is just punk at its fucking best - fast paced, up-tempo, crazy-ass lyrics and loaded with punk-energy. beautiful |

I strongly disagree that Korn songs are predictanble. Yes there are recurring themes in their songs but isnnt that the case with mostbands. THis song to me is about shirking off the feelings of someone close to you, and when you can almost see it coming. An interesting theme regardless of the fact that it, and similar themes, are covered in other Korn songs |

The song was undoubtedly initialy nfluenced by the incident in San Diego but songs don't always have a single theme or a single stimulus. I hink that while it is true that the guy in San Diego prompted Jon to write the song, the song draws on wider life experiences for its influence hitting on themes such as isolation, feeling of anger, resent of social position. Anyway, a very beautiful song that has had a great impact on my life becausse I can totally relate to it. |

| Perhaps Anorexorcist x is right. I sometimes think we are wasting our time trying to make sense of Cobain's lyrics. | |

When I started listening to this song I was certain it wasn't one of those superficial songs which has lyrics fot the sake of having them. I maybe wrong but this song to me is about sexual frustration - a strong desire to have sex and a forlorn feeling of not getting it. It also to me appears to espouse promiscuity. "Pick me, Pick me yeah" this to me is a call to anyone - a feeling of craving wantig to be wanted to be "picked". I relates a lot to myself - a feeling of wanting to be picked to have the fact that you are not that ugly to be represented by being picked. With the "let alone... whatever the line actually is!! is simply about a feeling of solitude "I broke you to hate him" to me is raw envy. seeing a chick with a guy and thinking "why is she with that guy" and breaking her downor wanting to because you want her for yourself The verse is sung in a tone that feels slightly withdrawn and frustrated but in the chorus breaks out with the "Dive, dive, dive in me" or "dive at me" as I interprit the lyrics. Which is a situation of being extremely horny - just wanting someone to jump on you and fuck your brains out I totally agree with mfan4life anotu the reference to prostitution |
