It seems to me to be about a girl who has had a lot of lovers, and each one of them left her and said goodbye. She's yearning for someone to love who will love her back, but she has such high expactations, and with each lover who's left her because of her high expectations, a little part of her seems to die, like the leaves falling off a tree. But despite of it all, she's not breaking down and crying, but continuing on. The line "one by one my tales are told" might be referring to the fact that, in the song, it's almost like a story. The first three stanzas are about different lovers who left her. The forth one is about a lover who finally stayed with her. |
