| Modest Mouse – Grey Ice Water Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
to me, this song is when i dropped out of college to smoke dope. MM writes about speed (aka ice) a lot. "grey ice water:" the blurred depth in retrospection of a drug addiction. "out in the wind, ......out in the weather:" pain and helplessness of addiction. "above the ground:" being high. "crazy lover:" methamphetamine "becoming frozen, trying hard to forget her:" getting high, trying hard to forget the problem. "you got a job up in alaska:" running as far from the drugs as possible. "easy to save... cannery pays....nowhere to spend it:" it's easier to save now in alaska than blowning it all on crystal like before; plus working in a canery is about all a college drop-out has, and being high all throughout his teen years doesn't have many hobbies to spend cash on. "....it's a fish trap:" Jesus was a fisherman. drugs are god. i am the fish. "you took the path of least resistance:" yep "on the phone cutting out talking short to long distance:" probably means getting right to the point on a long distance call. my meaning, on the phone, cutting out (lines of meth), talking short (either a. making a quick point or b. talking code) to long distance (either a. quick point with long explaination or b. talking code to your dealer) "ON THE ARTIC BLAST:" a "blast" means "to shoot up" and what else can you shoot up that's artic, but crystal ice. |
