This song amazes me. The polyrhtyhm at the end of the song is incredible and the lyrics are great. I don't get it entirely but i think what other people have said about it being autobiographical is pretty much right. love you joanna |

| The Shins – Caring Is Creepy Lyrics

the title caring is creepy when i had not even seen the lyrics suggested how sometimes when i or anyone cares about people alot...sometimes people can take it the wrong way and they get 'creeped' out about it. namely girls cus think about it...if you care about people alot then you think about them all the time and to some that is creepy....i could be wrong. but after reading the lyrics i think it has a similar concept but not just confined to relationships, but life in general. just to how we as humans question everything (those bloody scientists) and we just can't accept that some things are just the way they are. we've lost all faith in things(regardless of what type of faith). this is shown in the line 'never betray the way you've always known it is'. im pretty sure the 'lucious mix' stanza is about thinking of regrets and should have's. and yeah as has been said already if we constantly just thing about how things are, we wont be able to progress - builiding nothing, laying bricks. we are always just making foundations. if anyone has seen the movie garden state this song is played when largeman finds his grandads bike. this is very symbolic as largeman has been medicated to drugs for 14yrs and is numb to everything. his mum dies and he comes back and finds this bike and takes it for a ride. - bike=freedom, release. song=stop overthinking and ride a bike. caring is just way too creepy. watch garden state, its a great movie. zach braff....YEW!! |

| Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics

This song is one of the most heartfelt songs i have ever heard. Once i read the lyrics it completely blew me away after that. It has to be the most humbling song i have ever heard and i really do agree with the song how we are all equal with sinning hearts that makes us equal~emery. but the world sees differently. the world sees a murder and make a huge story about it and throw it all across media and hype it up hence making people think that it is such a big deal. if the media hyped up something about a man cheating on his wife or a son lying to his father about the drugs he used....the world would see those sins the same way as murder. To conclude, God sees all sins as equal. Once again, this song amazes me and very unique from Sufjan as most of his songs are genuinely enlightening rather than dawnting as this song is. When he sings 'Are you one of them? that gives me so many chills. Sorry for saying the Christian stuff by the way to anyone who gets offended by it. That's just the way the song means to me. can be different for you. cheers. |

omg asitallends im afraid you were way off dude....the title is not literal....the song is about his relationship with God...i dont need to explain anymore. the lyrics do the best explanation and i wouldnt be able to explain it well enough to do justice to the song in itself. this song is truely amazing and i think every person who believes in God can relate to this song. not saying people who dont believe in God can't, but it would be very different. |

you guys are retarded about the whole recording thing. yes they did mention 'shortcuts through graveyards' in the dvd about them renting dvd's during the recording.....but do u really think that the song revovles around the recording??? that line shortcuts through graveyards is just probably another representation of events in friendships. stop being so narrow minded as said before, stop assuming things that are said by thrice always relate to their songs in a confind manner. and stop trying to pretend you know what goes on in dustin's head when he writes this and know exactly what he is writing about. let the song be what it means to you!!!!! |

lol its quite funny seeing everyone fight over what this song means. but darkd0g pretty much nailed it. you can bicker all you like about what this song means to Dustin, but if you're fogetting about what this song means to YOU, then you can't enjoy the fullness of this song. anyway cheers and to people saying musically its crap and repetetive, well considering that to thrice its an anthem and that anthems are repetetive, obviously it was intentional. and there's nothing wrong with repetition, only when its used because of the lack of ideas. cheers guy. hope you see the song for more than it is to the writer. |

yeah i beleive the ocean/water represents life in this song. everything else in the song pretty much just is significant to what has happened in his life or is going to happen im not sure. i think the ship could symbolise the vessel that each person surrounds themself in with that being each to his own. it could be a christian theme with satan being the wind....i duno?? im going to agree with beckman_jake with it also being about the coming of Christ and with a new empire being raised. in that case the ocean might either have to symbolise the new earth or heaven. ive been trying to work out this song for a while and am still quite stumped. but i think it is a very criptic song and very personal to dustin or whoever the writer may be. the christian approach for me was mainly interpreted because alot of the songs on vheissu had a biblical and christian theme. now if u dont believe that, that's ok. because i still think that each song can be interpreted anyway the listener can take it. as long as it meaningful to you...thats all that matters. lyrics aside...this song is one of the most beautiful and amazing songs i have ever heard. the ending is absolutely brilliant as the hitherto feels very solemn and restrictive feel, but the end feels like a release...it gives me chills every time. anyway i think ive babbled. thanks for reading if u have. |

The end of this song is amazing. Brilliant opener for her album. I think this song is about a relationship I'm not sure what sort bu definitelyt one that never really ended, they just drifted apart as the line 'You and I never lasted a goodbye', suggests. 'All clothed in black' could mean that the relationship was absorbed and so dark and at present doesn't evoke emotions of happiness. The line at the end 'What once was clothed in white', would make one think that the relationship was at a stage of happiness where everything was pure and lovely. |

this song really is amazing. it is blatantly about the story when Peter betrayed Jesus three times and the lead up to it. the end is so brutal and is such a realisation of how as a christian i always promise to God that i will never disown him or disappoint him but instead when stuff happens i end up failing him so many times. |

well this is gonna be my last post but just to finish um i think its totally cool with ur opinion but just with that last point 'I do not like the idea of one person thinking people who follow his/her belief are better than people who do not' i personally as a christian dont think im better than anyone who isnt a christian ive just admitted that im not a good person and need God but i do think that a lot of christians do think they are better than everyone else. |

well darkzeph, the song says 'we are named and that we are known' so obviously he is referring to a specific genre of people. to me that is christians bcus the world knows who christians are. now if you could tell who specifically u think which group he is talking about that would be great. and there is obviously an opposing party 'though the world may hate us' and im assuming thats every one bar christians. and also on the fact on thrice not being a christian band i think that is true. bcus the lable as a christian band is very confined and i saw an interview that thrice had once and dustin said 'if a christian artist paints a picture it doesnt mean that the picture he paints has to be christian'. but yeah watever dude im not opposing u jus challenging. and also this isnt the first time dustin has used bible references read deadbolt lyrics and look up proverbs 9, specifically 9:17 but that whole song is a reference to that chapter. |

yeah darkzeph i think its kool that you have your own opinion like if thats what the song means to you thats kool but to me the song is an anthem for christians but watever it is for you thats kool too. but i really believe that the song is really about christianity like the line 'we are lost and we are found' referring to the fact that we all use to be lost but Jesus saved us and also the line 'though the world may hate us, we are named' im pretty sure hes referring to christians but please enlighten me on who you think he's talking about. |

i completely agree with pdpdrummer and just to confrim wat he says; in collosians 1:15 it says 'He is the image of the invisible God, the first born over all creation' and the whole thing is trying to explain the supremacy of christ. so yeah we as christians should try to resemble the image of christ or God. thanks cya |

im gonna say what i think the song means instead of argue whether its emo or not cus ur all goin around in circles. if u read the comics all the songs make loads of sense like devils in jersey city: josephine (coheeds daughter) goes to jersey city with her boyfriend and while they are making out in a car a gang called jersey city devils pull them out and rape josephine 'sweet josephine will you fuck me back home' and 'dont let them scare you when your down on the floor bleeding bastard'. read the comics to understand coheed more and to find out the rest of the story |
