"no its not"
Wow, persuasive argument! (-:
It seems like "Tehran" came out first. Check out the posts for "Tehran" on this site and compare with The Offspring's website (www.offspring.com). (Also see my post for "Tehran") |

I've got no proof of which song came first, but you have to admit "Tehran"s lyrics rhyme a lot better. I'd be kinda weird if "Baghdad" was first and then when they changed the country and capital city it just happened to rhyme where the first one hadn't. So it seems a lot more likely that "Tehran" was first. |

This is a absolutely awesome song, very emotional. I love it.
I agree with magicmanx9, its not about suicide. The singer feels bad about their life at the moment, but the last lines of the chorus "But if I could change/Then i'd really be amazed" make it pretty clear that he's got hope for the future. |

This song's definately about not living by other people's expectations, but to me it seems like its talking about two different types of expectations. There's "the rules", the expectations of parents and other authority figures AND there's the expectations of peers (to be cool etc). The singer is telling both groups to shove off. "Back off your rules/Back off your jive" He doesn't want to be controlled by either group.
PS I agree with victoryguy, it's "home life". |

Interesting, I didn't think of this as an anti-war song. I just took it as about a relationship. I see what you mean now you mention it tho. The singer wants to win at love rather than win at war. And people on either side of the conflicts, even though they fight each other, still try to reach out to each other. Nice interpretation. |

I petty much agree with what most have said about this song, that it's about not understanding a partner (tho the Ikea furniture interpretation is interesting (-: ), but I also think this song has implications of depression and suicide, eg, there's a couple of references to "cuts". I think the guy in the song has a girlfriend who is suicidally depressed, he doesn't understand what's going on and is being dragged down by it himself. |
