As a dual national of both America and Great Britain (And having lived in both countries) this song hits pretty close to home. It's racism, xenophobia, whatever you want to call it. And it hurts. It's about the looks we get the second we open our mouths. It's the feeling we get when strangers feel they have the right to question you about personal things. About your family. About friends dying. About blaming a random for THEIR friends dying. It's not a pretty thing, and this song nails it. Who said that bigotry had to be against colour? (Or color, for my American counterparts) Do the words 'Alliance of the Willing' mean NOTHING? Does the term 'coalition' mean anything to you? Time to stop looking for a scapegoat. Some of the people I know have hit out at kids too young to have voted in the Bush elections. Is that fair? Does it make Europe stronger, better, for the way that they have reacted to things? No. Just as it doesn't make America better for the way they reacted. Get over it, learn from it, and try not to be dicks. Simple. |

People messing about and then one of them develops a serious interest. They start a real relationship, and she's saying that 'you're losing your polish. You and I both know what we're really like.' Or maybe they hide in other people and their physical contact with them, and he's found someone besides her, who lets them hide and use them. Well, that's what I think at least. |

I was always struck with the sense that "that same black line..." lyrics was always about his father; the same gift of music was put on him, and maybe they both hated their talent and lifestyle, except that maybe Jakob's started to like it and come to terms with everything in his life. And yes, I'm aware it's inspired by a homeless man. But 'inspired' doesn't always mean 'solely about'. ((I also apologize fore all grammatical and spelling mistakes. My first language isn't English.)) |

It's almost like he's a sadist, and she's the masochist. She can't really understand why she keeps coming back to this guy, but she loves the drama that she gets trapped into. Maybe she feels they're as bad as each other. It's like the sexual tension is so great, that she'll always fall for him even when she knows better (like a prince... but I'd better bite the bullet...) |

All the people gathered to watch you smile, & take photographs for rememberance, Could they testify with experience they would find that, They've never met someone quite like you. I think this could be about a wedding or a prom, an event where people take pictures and talk about how wonderful the couple is, how they are all enchanted by them. I say wedding because you need a witness at the weddings. Also, I think it's sung in such a tone - detatched, dreamy, and kind or surprised that she feels this way about the person. Well, that's just how I see it. |

| To me, it's about taking someone for granted and waking up and realising that they won't always be there. | |

I think that this line refers to how he feels he has no emotions, his heart is dead because she's gone away from him. I get the idea that this song is about a girl who left him for something better, but he doesn't think she got what she wanted, that it wasn't all that it seemed. "It hurts to breathe" shows that he misses her, is devastated, but "Her minds made up the girl is gone And now I’m forced to see I think I’m on my way" Shows that he realises that she's not going to do anything more for the relationship and that he can't change her mind. I love this song and how it really portrays all the emotions he seems to be feeling. He has an amazing voice, no? |

I agree that it does have something to do with her not believing in the help offered, but I think that it also shows that he needs to help her to help himself, it being a very twisted situation. I think that when they refer to the revolver, it could refer to how he needs the shot to "put him out of his misery", as it were. I dunno, I could be wrong, but that's one take on it. Awesome song either way. |

I admit, I hate Nu-Metal usually. I typically listen to things like Opeth and Helgrind...but anyway. I understand what he means (if that isn't too pretentious?) because I'm experiencing something like it right now. He's got to deal with this person in his life who is slowly draggin him down. He felt that he could help fix all thier problems by being there for them and taking on thier problems himself-- but that's when it becomes all too much and he can't deal with it anymore. The person is there and seems to be clinging on and sucking the life out of every situation... How he says that his problem is being to compasionate, and how he reached out to a drowning person, it seems that instead of pulling them out, he got sucked into the problems instead. Now he just wants out and for them to go sort their problems for themself and deal with the consequences that come with all of thier actions. Anywho, that's just how i see things. Yeah, maybe the lyrics are terrible, and the song structure could use some work, but it's an outlet to many people. We should respect it. I don't expect people to take me seriously when I say that I love 3 Inches of Blood, but it's all the same -- a way to deal with life, and different people have different views, so we have to at least tolerate it if not love it. |
