First, I've listened to the song and read te lyirc possibilities. I'm certain that it goes like this: Reverend, Reverend Is this some conspiracy? Crucified for no sins, (...shit, I just got confused again...I'll say "an image beneath me" for now. But italmost sounds like "with an edge". 10 years and I still can't figure this out.) Lost within my plans for life It all seems so unreal I'm a man cut in half in this world Left to my misery Second, RIP Dime. You changed my life. This is the best song fucking ever. The main riff made me fall in love with metal the first time I heard it. I remember the day, minute, hour and second and I haven't looked back since. |

| In this song I see a relationship issue of some sort. But the line "One less propaganda nightmare fixture, are you getting the picture?" sounds like some sort of reference to the stereotype that critics push on them. "Just another shock rock bunch of satanists...". I dunno. That's my bit. | |

| True, for the most part, Phil just lays it out there. I wonder if this is a song about him personally. Anyone know? | |

I never thought about it actually being about the rapture because I never thought Slipknot would make a song about that. However... If it is I would have to say tthe first verse is saying I knew people who were taken in the rapture but here I am still going to Hell and/or caught up in the judgements. I'm not sure what exactly the pictures meant to make you cry would be. Then wonder what he did to make him not beleive in/harden his heart to God (calcify). the chorus deals with realizing too late that God exists and he is a sinner. Also, I think the lyric is "I come toward you" not "contort you". Which would be talking about repenting and such. the second verse is describing the antichrist/false prophet(s) having him believe the lies, realizing they were lying, and saying I'm still screwed THANKS ALOT DICK! The last bridge part and last chorus might be more about being saved. take...this...away / take..this..away.. Then perhaps manna from heaven being the food of the last believers. i can feel it on my mouth i can taste you on my fingers i can hear you like the holy ghost this line refering to the armies of the antichrist. and kill you if you get too close now swapping meanings saying I'm ignoring you now false prophet (i ignore you) / feels his sins being forgiven as i close my eyes, i feel it all slipping away going with jesus (i come toward you) we all got left behind, we let the lies and sin slip away we let it all slip away this is an interesting view. but I'm not sure an acurate one. |

no one seems to have any comments on the meaning of this song. but if you listen to the rest of the album it's pretty obvious and self explanitory, especially if you read the notes in the lyrics. But, if anyone wants a quick rundown. The Edgecrusher, our hero, walks into a church wondering/remembering who jesus and/or god is. The whole album is a story of man vs machine in a machine dominated future. The Edgecrusher is a rebel who is losing hope in what he is doing (fighting the machines) because, he feels man is just too self destructive, and in this song and the next (timelessness) he loses and then regains hope for humanity. This song is the Shiz-nite! One of my favorites of all time. |
