My favorite song from their latest album. It may be coincidence but when I have had rough times in my life Soul Asylum made an album that really spoke to me. The band makes music that is real. This song is inspirational. It is saying that if life gets you down, that you should believe in yourself, and stand up for what you believe. It is saying that we have the power of choice, that we do not have to just accept things the way they are. My favorite line is "If you're life's a mess, remember you're blessed". It is saying that things might be going wrong, but that you have the power to change them, the power to choose your destiny. This song has spoken to me at a time when my marriage is not going well. There were some things that I was just accepting and putting up with but that I was unhappy with. This song has inspired me to have the courage to change those things. |

This song is definitely about death and the inevitability of death. We are all going to die and as it says "death shines a golden light" means that death is the peaceful ending to our horrible lives here on earth. I love the line, "All our hate is a product of a world, we created". I have several interpreations for this line. First it is saying that we choise to hate/be angry with our lives. It is saying that if we are miserable, it is because we choose to be so. The other meaning that it has is that we humans create the society that we live in. We might be unhappy with how things are in our lives but it is the world that we have created and therefore cannot changes things unless we change the world we have created. Either way, I love this line because it puts the blame squarely on ourselves. Its says that if you are unhappy, it is because you make yourself unhappy. I also love the solo part of this song because it is about relating to other people and sharing common experiences or feelings. To me this is what music or the arts is about, sharing emotions, human emotions. It says that we are all humans and we feel anger, we need to express ourselves, we have emotions, we feel pain, and we are all scared to die. We are all in the same boat, and eventually that boat will sink, its a fact of life. |

This song is so beautiful. To me the best line is the very first, "Your life has been so hard". To me a real person is someone who has experienced some pain, heartached, set backs, or some kind of adversity in life. If you have had an easy life, you really haven't lived just yet. Life is so much different when life is kicking you in the nuts. You only have to listen to the live album to find out what this song is about, trying to help someone who doesn't want your help. I was in a difficult relationship when the live album came out. I was in the car one day with the girl and this song (from the live album) was playing in the background. We weren't talking (part of the problem) and it just hit me. She doesn't want my help. She had problems but for some unknown reason, when it came to helping her deal with those problems, she pushed me away. Well, in the end, we split up. I can say that I really felt the frustration and powerlessness that this song expressed. The other line that I really like in this song is "Please, forgive me, I'm just a man. Whose, made mistakes." This says that the person who is wanting to be helpful is not just doing so to put themselves above the person who needs help. It is saying, I want to help you because at one time I needed help but didn't take it or I have messed up in life and appreciated help fixing things. Finally, I love this song because it is centered around helping people. I believe that we should strive to help our fellow man no matter what because they are people just like us and are good people. It is that simple. All people are good and deserving of help. |

| First of all this website is called "Song Meanings" which is giving your interpretation of the song lyrics. All this debate and band bashing is pure fucking shit. If you would read the lyrics to this song and had some intelligence, you would be able to tell that Hatebreed has some talent and are not sell outs. They write some great lyrics. This song is more than just about being pissed off. This song, like many Hatebreed songs is about reacting to abuse. But their music is not just about being pissed off and angry (which is a natural emotion to abuse) but this song is about getting over the anger and making something of yourself. In this song, he realizes that if he has respect for himself, then he will stand up for himself and tell people how he feels. He is determined to fight back and win by making something of himself. This song is about anger but it is half the message. There are so many positive undertones flowing through this song as with many Hatebreed songs. That is why I love their music, they are so realistic and down to earth. They have been kicked in the ass by the world but are going to fight back and make a negative into a positive. | |

| My introduction to this song was on the Our Lady Peace Live DVD. If you have not heard OLP's cover, you must. Its awesome, though I might be biased being an OLP fan. I believe this song is about tough love. It is about someone who has problems but has a person who wants to help. The helper is made to do some things that seem mean but in the end are what the problem person needs. The phrase "drive you home" has a figurative meaning. Drive as in driving home a point and home as in a person's soul or heart. I think this song is about really frankly speaking to a person and saying "hey, you have a problem and you need to deal with it". Whoever mentioned it being about an alcoholic was right. I thinks its about something like that. The frustrating part for the helper is that they can do everything they can for the person with the problem but nothing will change until the problem person makes the change. And that is where the tough love part comes in, at times someone with a problem must be left to feel alone or feel consequences because of their problem so that they are motivated to change. That is very hard to do. The song also hints that the person with a problem first has to admit to themselves that they have a problem ("ya can't go on, thinkin nothins wrong"). But if you really want to help a person you have make them see that they really have a problem. It is not easy to do but nothing meaningful in life is easy. This is a well written song and I am a fan of good song lyrics. | |

| I can't believe no one has written abou this song. It is one of my favorite Soul Asylum songs. I really don't know what it means. It is just a funny song that rhyms so it makes for a good song to sing in the shower. The beginning of the song is just so surreal that it is hilarious. Obviously the band thought well of the song since the album title came from this song (Grave Dancers Union). This title in itself is humorous. This song is funny but as far as I can think, doesn't have much meaning. | |

One of Staind's best songs. For somebody who comtemplated suicide but decided against it, it was easy to understand. This song is about how ridiculous that suicide is. That it does not solve any problems eventhough at the time its seems the best thing to do. "And fuck you, For not having the strength in your heart to pull through. I've had doubts, I have failed, I've fucked up, I've had plans, Doesn't mean I should take my life with my own hands" These are some of the best lyrics ever written. There is so much meaning in them. It illustrates how suicide is such the cowardly thing to do, that facing difficulty and getting over it shows courage and strength. It then says about how he messed up, failed, and wanted to kill himself but decided not to. For me that part is so personal. I've thought about suicide but decided not to and years later of course the reasons for me wanting to commit suicide passed. There really is nothing in this world that cannot be faced. That is the positive message that this song carries. |

| Staind has really great lyrics and this song really hit home for me. I was working at a group home when this song/video came out. Most of the kids that I came into contact with were by products of bad parenting or their parents own issues. Well the meaning of this song really hit me when I saw the vidoe one afternoon while getting ready for work. This song is about parents who don't build a relationsip with their children. I love at the end of the video where the kid is attracted to the band in teh store front. It shows how kids turn to things (such as music) that they can relate to. For me it was just like, that's the kids I work with. They don't have supportive parents. Some didn't have functional parents. In the end, its the kids that lose out. That is something to think about before you become a parent. I see too many kids who are struggling because their parents are divorced or the kids are forced to deal with a step parent. The best thing that can be done for kids is to have 2 biological parents raise and care for them. I'm not trying to preach but its true. A kid is more likely to turn out better if his parents were together. Too many times parents think about themselves and not about their children. Then in the end, its the children who lose out. This song is about the thoughts, feelings, and wishes of the kids involved aren't considered. | |

| One of the best OLP songs. This song is so existentialist. It depicts the world for what it is - "all messed up". But then its very positive. Life is difficult, its screwed up, unfair but yet we should be happy to be alive and its an accomplishment to just survive. This song speaks about the strength of human beings. We can face some tough things and still survive. We are all survivors. If you haven't had anything bad happen in your life, then you really haven't lived. | |
