hmm, i think the second verse says victimous, but the last verse says victim less...but that's just what i hear. and it's stabs not steps, um....let's see...that looks like all the corrections. neways, i agree with fridgecrisis. this is simply about a person who won't take any responsibility for their actions, and even when people tell them they're obviously wrong, they still refuse to. they're very self-righteous and in the end it's gonna bite them in the ass. but, dashboard rocks, and i can't wait until they come to my town in concert! def. buying this CD before they do!! |

just my interpretation of the song...personally i think it's truly what death cab ment. it's about this guy cheating on the woman he loves with someone he met while in california. "This is the moment that you know That you told her that you loved her, but you don't You touch her skin and then you think That she is beautiful, but she don't mean a thing to me Yeah, she is beautiful, but she don't mean a thing to me" mkay. so the guy is thinking back to the moment he had sex with this person. he told her he loved her, however, he realized he was just saying it in the heat of the moment. "I spent two weeks in Silver Lake The California sun cascading down my face There was a girl with light brown streaks And she was beautiful, but she didn't mean a thing to me Yeah she was beautiful, but she didn't mean a thing to me" so for whatever reason, he spent two weeks in california, most likely spring break or a vacation w/o his gf. and he met a girl with light brown hair who he thought was beautiful. but he was only attracted to her looks. "I wanted to believe in all the words that I was speaking As we moved together in the dark And all the friends that I was telling And all the playful misspellings And every bite I gave you left a mark" he told her he loved her and that she would be his only one, yada yada yada, while in the heat of the moment, he told his friends about her, and most likely would email her while he was there and tell her that he luved her, and with every passionate moment (which is what bite refers to) he realized that what he was doing was wrong, and that this girl didn't truly mean anything to him, he was just having fun. "As tiny vessels oozed into your neck And formed the bruises That you said you didn't want to fade But they did and so did I that day" he leaves his "marks" on her heart, making her fall in love with him, however he's inlove with the person he has back home, and no matter how much this girl wants him to be inlove with her, he wants to go back to the other girl. "All I see are dark grey clouds In the distance, moving closer with every hour So when you'd ask, "Is something wrong?" I'd think "You're damn right there is But we can't talk about it now No, we can't talk about it now" he's back home, he feels guilty, and his gf can tell there's something wrong with him. when she asks him, he says he doesn't want to talk about it because he realizes that if he tells her there's going to be a "storm". she'll cry, yell, hate him, etc. so he avoids the subject completely. "So one last touch and then you'll go And we'll pretend that it meant something so much more But it was vile, and it was cheap And you are beautiful, but you don't mean a thing to me Yeah, you are beautiful, but you don't mean a thing to me Yeah, you are beautiful, but you don't mean a thing to me" the girl from california won't leave him alone, so he agrees to be with her one more time to get her off his back, and he admits what he did was discusting, and wrong,cheap, and sickening, but to him it was the only way to get rid of her. and he tells her that she doesn't mean anything to him. |

hmm, i think this is about a girl and a boy that have been together off and on for a while. she uses him as a back-up guy because she doesn't want to end up being like all the other lonely people out there, but the boy is in love with her and also realizes it's unhealthy and needs to prove to himself he can live without her, but whenever they're together he's too weak, and wishes she wouldn't go away. while she's only playing with his heart, and doesnt love him. he thinks of himself as a monster that's obsessed with her, and the only way to stop it is to kill him emotionally (single silver bullet shot right through the HEART) heart=love/emotions. that's just my observation, this truly is an amazing song, i haven't heard the original version, only the accoustic. but i'ma go listen to the original so i can hear the difference. i truly adore hawthorne heights, they're music never fails to amaze me. :) |

some how no matter how many times i listen to this song, it still makes me feel better since i can relate to it a lot...even though i stay sad. i love DC, such nice lyrics, and catchy tunes too. props to them for not being like everyone else. yay chris! ~Annerbananer~ |
