Right Away, Great Captain! – Father Brian Finn Lyrics 16 years ago
solidsnake1, you're thinking of the first album, where the second to last track is "I'm Not Ready to Forgive You"

submissions
Dear and the Headlights – Try Lyrics 16 years ago
the second to last line should be "i guess when both our eyes have finally dried."

Right Away, Great Captain! – Cause I'm So Scared of Dying Lyrics 17 years ago
amz: these lyrics are copy-pasted from the Right Away, Great Captain! blog on myspace. You're right, the lyrics differ in the actual song, but this is what Andy Hull has put up.

one of them seems to be "jacob stands on nails" but a google search for that phrase doesn't come up with anything.

Sufjan Stevens – The Perpetual Self, or ''What Would Saul Alinsky Do?'' Lyrics 17 years ago
are you sure it's "It's the love that changes gifts to everyone"

and not "it's the love that Jesus gives to everyone"?

Manchester Orchestra – When We Were Trees Lyrics 17 years ago

mewithoutYou – In a Sweater Poorly Knit Lyrics 18 years ago
"If she comes circling back, we'll end where we'd begun"

references "A Valediction Forbidding Mourning" by John Donne.

The mwY song "Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt" also references that poem.

Emery – The Secret Lyrics 19 years ago
parts of this song make me think part of it could be sung by judas, the betrayer of Jesus. "When I hear the rain, should I be afraid for my life?"

Mark 4:
"35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" 41 They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!""

There is also the part where he says,
"Why do you look at me that way?
I told you that I was too busy to see you.
I would never keep a secret from you."

Also, I think that the last part could be Jesus talking to Judas, or even all of the disciples, from "Is it over?" to "I still love you, I swear, I always will." Just my personal thoughts.

also...it's "I've grown overfed," not, "I'm rolling over in bed"

mewithoutYou – January 1979 Lyrics 19 years ago
about the "it was a matter of time, i always said i could see but now i'm going blind...it was a matter of miserable time, but i heard somewhere, there was a cure for useless eyes. based on the video i saw of Aaron at cornerstone 05 i believe this refers to John 9:39,

39 Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind."

I honestly don't see either interpretation. No offense or anything. I think I'm going to shoot Steve Taylor a note asking him about it.

mewithoutYou – I Never Said That I Was Brave Lyrics 19 years ago
so I think that the "you might laugh but you'll never smile" comes from "the haunted palace" by edgar allan poe.

"
While, like a rapid ghastly river,
Through the pale door;
A hideous throng rush out forever,
And laugh — but smile no more."

whatever...maybe i'm wrong. but i'm pretty decently sure.
