| Tom Waits – Watch Her Disappear Lyrics | 20 years ago |

i can't believe no-one has commented on this song... the imagery is just amazing, you really do feel like you can see what he's describing. the use of sensual imagery is ace, " wooden cherry scent is faintly breathing the air.." "The air is wet with sound" ... need i say more? the lyrics are so poetic i could go on and on about this track, but i shan't just...wow :D |

| The Dresden Dolls – Half Jack Lyrics | 20 years ago |

it seems to me that she is a child of rape...i mean if half of her is i "left up to dispute" then surely she doesn't know her father? shes "half accidental", which to me means that her mother wasn't excately in on the plan... "half pain" - her father did a runner, this is evident as she "see[s] jack run" the pills she refers to would be the morning after pill... "two halves are equal" - yet she doesn't feel whole as she never knew her father. the ref. to "83rd" and how he "never found the magic words" to change the fact that shes half jill and half jack could mean that no matter what he has to say shes still his kid. she only had half a home - "halfway home" - never had a father in her life. i could be, and probably am, jumping to conclusions - but it seems to me that shes pointing out the lack of a father other than the DNA side of it, rather than commenting on the traits that she picked up from him. its more like an empty space where he should have been.... who knows. |

[a good deal of sleep later] please excuse the typos.... misspellings.... bad use of punctuation, and general idiotic nature of my last comment. |

| Tori Amos – Cornflake Girl Lyrics | 20 years ago |

the first thing that came to my mind when listening to this song was the idea of someone needing conaicne on their cornflakes.... "never was a cornflake girl"... the srug of choice for a 'rasin girl' being reisin marajuana. after reading all of the above posts this now sounds ridiculous, but i thought i may aswell put it out there :) the lines related to the "other side" could be about the death of a cornflake girl... maybe it is her saying "this is not really happening" and betting her life upon it by taking drugs. abit out there, but it happens when it comes to tori lyrics :) |
