Minus the Bear – White Mystery Lyrics 16 years ago
Who changed the lyrics to "I still have skin to explore"??? The rhyming word repeated ad nauseam in the line before is "goes"...and you got "explore" to follow that? It's "I still have skin to expose". Failing to see where you found the L period in that word, never mind the de facto accusation of horrible rhyming by Snider.

Sublime – Garden Grove Lyrics 17 years ago
Surprisingly..err.. very few people have actually commented on what they think this song is about... weird... /sarcasm

Ok apart from "Omg this song is so cool"... I think Nowell is talking about how unfulfilled he is in Southern California. The only thing he's really found in life there that makes him happy is reggae/ska.

The first half of the song just talks about daily life in the non-affluent areas of Southern Cali in a semi apathetic state...

While the second half of the song talks about everything wrong with where he lives. Everything that Nowell is unsatisfied with in Southern California. He sees the materialism of it and the lack of substance that exists there. Reducing it to the list of things that make his soul unsound. He has a love/hate relationship with the area he grew up/lives in.

I see the last line "All these things I do, They're waiting for you." as a tongue in cheek saying for people who pine to live in Southern California and glorify it for its wealth, weather, and celebrities. To me Nowell is sort of saying, "you really think it's so great? Come here and see for yourself." For this reason, probably my favourite song off their self titled album.

Marvin Gaye – Flyin' High (In the Friendly Sky) Lyrics 17 years ago
Going with the overall story of What's Going On, this song is about a Vietnam Vet who became hooked on drugs while on tour and is now back home in the US trying to deal with his addiction. He goes back to his vice because it is the one thing that he can connect from his time in the war to his time back home. Nothing from home made sense in Vietnam and nothing from Vietnam makes sense back home but his drugs are the one thing that he can experience in both places. He knows it's slowly killing him but he needs to find the only comfortable place he knows and by the end of the song he accepts that fact again at least for another night. Just my take.

Marvin Gaye – What's Happening Brother Lyrics 17 years ago
^ said it perfect boozm. Song's about a guy who left for Vietnam and doesn't recognize the landscape when he got back to the "world". Song appears in a great scene in the movie Dead Presidents. Honestly probably my favourite song on the album

Marvin Gaye – Let's Get It On Lyrics 17 years ago
If you've listened to Marvin before and after this album you'll know that he was a deeply religious man. However he was also a very sexual man and this song is written from the perspective of a Christian male battling between his faith and his sexuality.

The Good, the Bad and the Queen – 80's Life Lyrics 17 years ago
I really think this song is about the early 80s living in England, specifically the Falklands War and the rampant nationalism that spread throughout England due to it. If you've seen the film "This is England" that came out last year it should explain this song pretty well.

Marvin Gaye – Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) Lyrics 17 years ago
Great way to end the original version of What's Goin On. The first stanza talks about the money that the US Government was giving NASA during the mid 1960s to the early 1970s, and the disenfranchisement many inner city blacks felt that their issues were being completely ignored.

The Rolling Stones – Stupid Girl Lyrics 20 years ago
quite similar to Under my Thumb in the underlying tone and message...this song really went against the grain of the 60's music movement...and I think it just fits the stones' style

The Rolling Stones – Under My Thumb Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is absolutely brilliant. At a time where feminism was gaining strength, here comes Jones and Jagger and put out a song like this..well..the whole Aftermath album actually..just listen to Stupid Girl. The cynicism in this song just really does it for me...great song

Cream – SWLABR Lyrics 20 years ago
JeffKaos is right...All of the translations for the acronym I've read say "She Was Like a Bearded Rainbow". Who knows what the hell this song means...they were high...this whole album was high...but i love the guitar in this song a lot...

David Bowie – Moonage Daydream Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this is one of the more powerful songs on the album, supposedly within the concept of the album it is written by "ziggy" himself. The opening chords and lyrics blew me away the first time I heard it

David Bowie – Five Years Lyrics 20 years ago
This song, while having some other misleading connotations, is mainly about the fact that "Ziggy Stardust" knows he only has five years of being a music star before he burns out and is forgotten, which is why it has such a deathly "pleading" tone to it. He's almost begging for more time. You guys have to remember that this entire album is a concept album. Every song has something to do with Ziggy and his story.

Cream – We're Going Wrong Lyrics 20 years ago
For anyone looking to get into THE band who mixed psychadelia with blues, as well as the best white blues band up to their time, this is an essential song. While it may sound boring at first, the blues solo track by clapton near the end fits so well with the mood and the time and the rhythm. One of the best "groove" sections of any Cream songs

The Doors – Five to One Lyrics 20 years ago
Yes this song was about the struggle between the younger generation in america and the older "WWII" generation so to speak, however this wasn't the main "Vietnam" song on the album, that went to The Unknown Soldier. I think Waiting for the Sun's saving graces were Five to One, Unknown Soldier, and Spanish Caravan...the rest of it was just..too happy for me
