| Starsailor – Bring My Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| For me, it's impossible to listen to this song without thinking of Oldboy. The first time I heard this was on Oldboy's DVD (the music plays in the menu and its music video containing scenes from the movie is included, but it's not in the movie itself). Great song, in any case. | |
| Gwen Stefani – Hollaback Girl Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The multilayered metaphysical approach of Hollaback can be intimidating to the uninitiated, so I will provide everyone with helpful explanations. "Uh huh, this my shit All the girls stomp your feet like this" The narrator has just shit herself, and the fact that she is asking her friends to stomp on it either indicates that she was wearing no clothing when she shit herself (the shit is on the floor), or that she scooped the shit from her underwear and placed it on the floor so that it could be stomped. Why she would shit herself is another issue entirely. "A few times I've been around that track So it's not just goin' to happen like that Because I ain't no hollaback girl I ain't no hollaback girl [2x]" The narrator has been around... somewhere, and something's not going to just happen like that. She could be referring to her self-defecation, and that it won't happen just like that, because she isn't a hollaback girl. It's not clear what hollaback means, but it is reasonable to assume that it is closely related to the act of self-defecation. "Oooh, this my shit, this my shit [4x]" The narrator confirms that yes, she shit herself and that yes, it's indeed her shit. Indeed, why would anyone store another person's shit in her anus, and not her own? "I heard that you were talking shit And you didn't think that I would hear it People hear you talking like that, getting everybody fired up So I'm ready to attack, gonna lead the pack Gonna get a touchdown, gonna take you out That's right, put your pom-poms down, getting everybody fired up" Someone found out that the narrator has shit herself as well as engaged in an orgy of shit-stomping, and the narrator is displeased with this turn of events. Someone spread information about her shit fetish, and now she is prepared to fight back. The narrator is leading a pack, and most likely she is referring to the people who were stomping her shit previously. "So that's right dude, meet me at the bleachers No principals, no student-teachers All the boys want to be the winner, but there can only be one So I'm gonna fight, gonna give it my all Gonna make you fall, gonna sock it to you That's right, I'm the last one standing, another one bites the dust" The theory that the narrator shit herself and then scooped the shit on the floor is clearly the dominant one, as she explains that she took her clothes for bleaching. Bleach is certainly required when one shits in the pants. Apparently, no student-teachers or principals are to be present when the bleaching occurs. The matter will be resolved privately. Once again the narrator establishes that she intends to fight those who unjustly revealed her shit-stomping habits. A competition of some sort is mentioned, but its meaning is unclear. It could have something to do with shit. "Let me hear you say, this shit is bananas B-A-N-A-N-A-S [4x]" The narrator unexpectedly goes on a tangent about bananas. She undoubtedly means that she ate bananas, which she then shitted in her pants. |

| Snoop Dogg – Drop It Like It's Hot Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I woke up this morning with the English translation of "Drop it like it's hot" stored in my brain. "Greetings. My name is Snoop Dogg, and I am wholly incapable of communicating in coherent English. Alas, I am forced to substitute meaningful dialogue with unintelligible nonsense, sometimes referred to as "ebonics," which in turn is often known as "unintelligible nonsense. I am attempting to communicate to you about the trials and tribulations of being down with my homies in the ghetto streets. I ofen enjoy getting it on with my bitches and hoes, shizzle nizzle fizzle. I should also mention that I am in possession of an AK-47 assault rifle, and therefore any attempt to threaten me with violence will be met with armed resistance. Nigga ghetto bitch hoe in the streets yeah." |

| Good Charlotte – I Just Wanna Live Lyrics | 20 years ago |

"I became with famous with the full knowledge that I'd be having paparazzis and idiots up the ass, but it sucks and it's not fair. It's not fair, mommy." "I think I'll write a song about how much I hate being famous and rich." |

| P.O.D. – Abortion Is Murder Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I'd like to offer my explanation for this song. First, the band informs us that an introduction is taking place, and they explain their origins and current whereabouts: "Intro yeah, it's the P.O.D. right here Coming straight from S.D. C - A" We learn that the band performing the song is known as P.O.D and that they're coming straight from S.D. C - A, whever that is. They're right here. "619's in effect y'know what I'm sayin'" A 619 is in effect. Ok. "Givin' you that hardcore sound yeah Comin' up from the ground boy That's where it all started y'know what I'm sayin' Yeah, this is hardcore, you know why it's so hardcore" What we're dealing with here is hardcore stuff, the lyrics assure us. This is hardcore. Hardcore sounds. I want to be very clear about this: this is hardcore. Make no mistake. "'Cuz it's bult on the rock - what rock you ask The rock of Jesus Christ, yeah that's right Givin' you the truth 'cuz the truth hurts y'kow But that's how we layin' it down We ain't got nothin' to hide And we're breakin' it down like that y'know what I'm sayin' Hardlove, hardcore one way yeah, check it out" This music is based on the teaching of Jesus Christ. That's right. They are laying down the truth, which apparently causes physical discomfort, but they have nothing to hide. We know what they're saying, and the music is once again hardcore. We are urged to check it out, which is probably what we're already doing anyway. Now that the introductions are over, it is time to move on and start talking about some of those truths that cause discomfort: "Abortion is murder There's nothing you can say or do To justify the fact That there's a living breathing baby inside of you That there's a living breathing baby inside of you That there's a living breathing baby inside of you Abortion is murder, abortion is murder Abortion is murder, abortion is murder Abortion is murder, abortion is murder Abortion is murder, abortion is murder There's nothing you can say or do To justify the fact That there's a living breathing baby inside of you That there's a living breathing baby inside of you Abortion is murder, abortion is murder Abortion is murder, abortion is murde Abortion is murder, abortion is murder Abortion is murder, abortion is murder Abortion is murder, abortion is murder Abortion is murder, abortion is murder Murder, murder, murder, murder Abortion is murder, abortion is murder Abortion is murder, abortion is murder Abortion is murder, abortion is murder" What the lyrics seem to be suggesting is that abortion is murder, and that human females who are pregnant carry living, breathing babies inside them. They lyrics seem to repeatedly insist that this is so. We cannot justify these facts, it seems. Though I would never even dream of justifying the aforementioned facts, I will, however, venture to provide the following thoughts: - It is widely believed by many reputable scientists that it takes approximately nine months for an embryo to develop into an infant. Nine months means, basically, that the process is not instantaneous, but that it takes nine months. Many reputable scientists and experts agree that infants do no materialize from thin air. In conclusion: no, it is not necessarily a living, breathing baby as the song suggests. - Though I cannot possibly justify any of the facts that P.O.D presents me with, it would seem that many people have done otherwise. Apparently, several people have succesfully justified the aforementioned facts, even to the point of achieving legal recognition. - It is indeed a strange paradox that, while murder is illegal everywhere, and abortion is murder, many people are getting away with abortion in several countries, and the courts and judges do nothing! Where is the justice? - Some philosophers would argue that "there's nothing you can say or do to justify your position" is, in fact, a fucking assbackwards way of conducting a debate while still trying to sound like you're not mentally retarded. |
