Amy Winehouse – Me & Mr. Jones Lyrics 19 years ago
Yeah I would have to agree, I think the lyrics david posted are the correct ones. Anyway I love this song, and to my understanding its about Nas (Nasir Jones = Mr. Jones). Basically she is cursing out an ex lover who apparently made her miss a Slick Rick concert, so now she's not inviting him to see the Nas concert because she's not letting anyone stand in between her and Nas. Mr Destiny 9 and 14...im not exactly sure what thats about but i know Nas' daughters name is Destiny, and both he and Amy share the birthday of 9/14 so, all this simply adds to why i love this song so much.

I think it actually is crosses because Kele did say that he chose the term 'we've got crosses on our eyes' because he wanted to use childlike cartoon imagery for when someone is dead or dazed.

I heard this song was written about a schizophrenic friend of Kele's. other than that it's too crazy for me to try to understand

also "heavens never enough, we will never be fooled" I took that to mean 'we have been told fornication is wrong but we reject that because we're enjoying the sex' You can't fool us into thinking this is wrong. And if it is we'd rather go to hell. and yess, Bloc Party spits hot fire! lol

I think it's about taking a girls virginity, like how bean and medicated explain. I also used to think that he was comparing this 'virgin' girl to his previous lover in "you don't taste like her" But now I think. the "her" is the virgin. Basically the way this girl was before they had sex and the way she is now are like two different people, they don't even taste the same. He's comparing the corrupted and non-corrupted versions of this girl. "it never ever stops" Now all she wants to do is have sex or do sexual things, they dont even talk or read the papers anymore. He didn't mean to turn her into a sex maniac or whatever she's become, but he still enjoys it "Im on fire when you come"

I definitely agree with the marriage/divorce interpretation of this song. The richer poorer bit pretty much solidified that for me. I suppose you could read religious decay in this, but only if you really really wanted to see it. It seems a bit more personal than something as large as religion, especially the line "Its so cold in this bed" I dunno why that's not in this set of lyrics but hey. Not only that but the complacency in the song seems to be more along the lines of going along with the institution of marriage even though it's not working. The crosses on the eyes signify refusing to 'see' what is clearly the breakdown of a marriage but it could also mean (if you want to take the religious route) that they are going along with the institution of marriage because thier religious environment or upbringing says they should get or stay married. Woah, I just noticed the religious thing. I don't know why I didn't see it before. Anyway, I think both interpretations are right, but thats just me. This band spits hot fire. :)
