Noel said he was wasted when he wrote this and has no idea what it means. Also the Sally line line came from a chance comment by his brother. Also the first 2 lines of the second verse were lifted directly from Lennon's inchoate memoirs. Still fun to try and interpret though. "Slip inside the eye of your mind Don't you know you might find A better place to play" The narrator is telling someone that instead of dealing with reality they may find it more comforting to use their imagination and live inside their head. "You said that you'd never been" The other person responds that they have never done this. "But all the things that you've seen Will slowly fade away" The narrator retorts that that memories of what they have seen will fade. The implication is that in contrast imagination and thought will always be there for them. |
