The Microphones – The Moon Lyrics 19 years ago
I saw that somebody mentioned that Phil was requested this song at a concert, well my friend shouted it out at The Microphones concert in Charlottesville while everybody else was doing shoutouts and Phil just stared right at him as if he'd committed the worst of crimes.

Interpol – Leif Erikson Lyrics 20 years ago
"I left my urge in the icebox"

I don't see that as sexual. Its more of alluding to past alcoholic addiction or present addiction or just simplistic satisfaction with alcohol. Look at the next lines..."prey to the female." It is pretty obvious.

Radiohead – I Can't Lyrics 20 years ago
Check out Christopher O Riley's piano version of this song... he really takes it to a whole new level.

GREAT COMMENT. This is his best work. If you own the true love waits album this is the best song on it. even though I try. I bet the acoustic version of this song is amazing.

The Replacements – Unsatisfied Lyrics 20 years ago
"This song is so much better than "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction."

I love how you brought that up. The song is uncontrably punk and grunge at the same time. It serves as an anthem while being defeated by its own ambitiousness. Westerbergs seems undeniably intent on reaching a way to put it across, notice the morphing emphasis on the line

Look me in the eye
And tell me that I'm satisfied

then

Look me in the EYE
And tell me that I'm satisfied

Lookmeintheeye!
And tell me that I'm satisfied

As obvious as it sounds hes looking for satisfaction within the song. The main line seems to not be enough. The song culminates with rawness of Westerberg at its best, and the crashing guitar lines, fading, and rising, over and over. Our hearts can barely take it, and neither can popular music.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps Lyrics 20 years ago
Personally the album was a bit overhyped but the final three songs are mere perfect closer, with maps being the culmination. The larger than life guitars, creating friction with the gorgeous voice. Its a simple song, but extremely effective in the same way Unsatisfied by the Replacements is. The song is merely a bold declaration much like the Replacements masterpiece, it taps in to the gentle spot of personal serendipity. The consistent urge and PERCEPTION that our love is more supreme than anothers. Listen how the guitars go from gorgeous stuttering to crashing power chords. Once again the Yeah Yeah Yeahs can't find there perfect line, notice when she says Wait! and it sounds of pure desperation before giving up with a more mellow annunciation. And let the lover fall to her knees while the obscure object of desire walks away. Top ten song of 2000-2005 easily.
