He'd go even more batty if he knew she was with someone else. He's pouring his soul out to this girl. " Couldn't have said it better

"I suspect it was a prison break with 10538 being his number" - Joe Elliot (Def Leppard) To me its knowing a friend that committed a murder. "was it 10538" a bit of forshadowing of his soon to be prison number.

Wow am I the First to post a meaning? First of all Kudos to Troy, Clint and Corey for being in a band together (again). I miss Still Rain. This song is fairly self explaining... It's basically about someone (girlfriend, boss, best friend) trying to change you for their own devices - destroying you in the process.

Pepper Keenan: Basically it’s a song about me getting my life back on track. I live on a farm in North Carolina and I was in a relationship. I dedicated so much time to music that I left a lot of things behind. I needed to focus on more important things than I had been. Because of that I needed to turn things around and try & get my life back on track. It’s just my take on that!

Pepper Keenan: It’s just this crazy song that evolved. In the southern United States a backslider is some one who knows the ways of God and still chooses to turn his/her back on it. There’s a lot of hypocritical in that type of religion, especially down south. I was just taking little observations of that. How they treat each other, how they treat other people, without giving a history lesson. It’s a good topic to tackle. It had a lot of imagery in it. It’s a cool song.
