| Dead Can Dance – Tell Me About the Forest Lyrics

I love the lyrics of this song, if not so much the song. I think it is about a lost world, literal and figurative. Everything in the world is in vain, yet everything can still be gained, it says so there is a chance for a new world, yet the old was in vain. |

I love this song. It reminds me of a certain time in my life, and a certain person, always. To me, it is what love any sort of love is. Even if you are only with that person in your mind, they can still be with you even far away. |

| Duran Duran – Still Breathing Lyrics

This song has a very complex meaning. It is not easily explained. This song probably has a dozen meanings; it is just one of those songs. My interpretation of it is as follows. It is about having survived a tragedy, and about leaving the place of that tragedy either in emotional or actual geography and moving on. It is about how that is the only way to sucessfully move on with your life, and do the best you can do in the present, with what you have. There are not so many reminders of the past if you are not where it happened, either in your mind, or in that literal place. Sometimes it is not wise to meddle with the past. This could be about someone who had a tragic childhood, full of abuse. But that is too simplistic, really.
The truth of several observations in this song are in my personal experience. Home is truly where your spirit feels it to be, and where people important to you are. Words sting harder than blows sometimes. You forget the the feeling of a blow, but not the words: they sting again and again. They are eternal: a blow only lasts a moment. The music is wonderful. Along with the lyrics it speaks of several truths, and a predominant feeling of tragedy and moving on from it. |

| Duran Duran – What Happens Tomorrow Lyrics
| 20 years ago

This is my favorite Duran Duran song. Both the driving beat, and the lyrics which seem simple but have immense meaning are nice. The message of this song this song is that life is very uncertain although we take so much for granted. We hope the good will come, like we are entitled to it. The bad things always happen to someone else. But the truth is at any moment our world could fall apart and then what would we do? It is best to be prepared for the bad, while hoping for the good. Most people believe ''it will be alright in the end'' whether dealing with a good or especially, a bad situation. If this is based on good intuition, you are probably right. If not, then it's just hope. But hope is good. It is best to believe in hope, and to realize life isn't certain, nor a smooth path. Truthfully, there are no limitations in life-we are only limited by ourselves. There is no path to follow that will have only happy days. In good or in bad, it is wise to realize neither lasts forever-tomorrow could be your day. |

| Duran Duran – Ordinary World Lyrics

This song is could be most obviously about the break up of a romance, and how to go on in the Ordinary world without that person. Analyzing it by this meaning it doesn't have personal meaning for me-I have never been through that. But analyzing it by a different way it does. It can also be about loss in general, and realizing that while loss is part of life, the way you feel and the little world you create out of your grief aren't real. There is a larger, wider world with more important concerns and if you want to be part of it, you have to give up your grief for what you've lost. Then, you need to move forward while still keeping the best of what you have lost inside you. You have to learn how to survive without what you've lost and without becoming stagnant in your grief, with nothing to contribute to the world. This song is a reminder that our version of the world is just one version, and when we are lost in grief it is not very realistic. If we don't move on, the world will pas us by. But still the words ''Gone away '' are never easy. Like most people, I can relate to what this song means. |

| Duran Duran – Come Undone Lyrics

The music of this song has a shimmering quality that reminds you of gentleness and winter, something peaceful and quiet. The lyrics seem to make little sense sometimes, but by seemingly making no sense make a lot of sense. The music is the crowning glory of this song, though. It might be quiet but it grabs your attention . I think this is song is one of the most soothing songs I have ever heard. It's best to listen to this in the winter against ''a snow filled sky''. |

| Courtney Love – Sunset Strip Lyrics
|
This is my favorite Courtney Love song in both lyrics and music. Her voice here is just incredibly raw and beautiful.
She is speaking of things she knows and can't deny. She sees beyond the superficiality of Hollywood to the real thing, which is nothing here. Nothing but ''everybody dies''- a statement you woudn't find in the lyrics to any pop song. These lyrics are the ultimate evocation of the tragedies of Hollwood as well as the truimphs. It is an ode to those who don't succeed in Hollwood, and to those who do but ultimatly consume themselves with their own tragedy, as Courtney sometimes seems to be doing herself. ''I know no tomorrow'' is the statement of ultimate burn out, of suicide. It conjures up the stories of early Holllywood tragedies like Peg Enwhistle who jumped from the Hollywood sign to her death in the 1930s when she coudn't find any acting work despite being successful on Broadway. Or of Barbara La Marr who was a sucessful silent film actress who wore herself out through drug addiction and partying to die at 29, from what some sources say was consumption, and some a drug overdose. Also, in more modern times, it conjures up child actressess whose adult lives were one mess after another like Dana Plato, a suicide at 34. All the tragedies of Hollywood could fit this song. The statement '''oh tonight I got it right/ just one time'' is a good description of some of Hollywood's tragedies- they may have got it right once, enough to be famous, but then got it wrong to end up dead, forever remembered in a negative sense. This song is a beautiful statement of Hollywood tragedy. |

| Garbage – A Stroke Of Luck Lyrics
|
I love the music of this song, and I love the meaning. This is my second favorite song of Garbage's, one I heard only recently, but love. This song is about a relationship that you are not sure of, one that could have both good and bad implications. At the point of needing your saviour you get one-but is this person really your saviour or is something negative going on here? If you need help, and help comes, the way that help comes generally seems good. It seems like it's your ''stroke of luck''. But is it too good to be true? The world is full of those seeking the innocent for less than innocent purposes. Whether in a lover or a friend who saves you there sometimes seems to be devious motives. I was in a situation like that once, where someone saved me and seemed too good to be true. I believed and still believe this person to be genuine but
Can I ever be sure? I didn't have a second opinion and still don't. But if you analyze things and they seem right, then believe that. Sometimes, things happen that are magic, not fake.''Never trust anyone'' is a good motto, though. Dravensmaiden's comments on this song were excellant. |

| Hole – Dying Lyrics

This was my favorite Hole song when I first listened to their music. In some ways it still is. The lyrics of this song are a relation of love and death, a contrast of the two. The end of love and of life seem to be the same thing in this song. The whisper of Courtney Love at the begining of the song is the best part of it, and so thrilling when you listen to the first part. It showcases the beauty of Courtney's voice. This song is slow. but it has a lovely, liquid, melody. The music and the lyrics are both deep and thrilling. You can't help loving the beauty of the song, and being quite sure it is has no specific meaning, but every meaning possible a song of this type can have. So often, that is true of Hole's songs. This song always reminds me of early June, 2003. I am lost in that time when I hear it, lost in the time when I first came to love the music of Hole. That is something that I always will love.... that and the summer of 2003. |
