| Nirvana – You Know You're Right Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I may be way off base because I stopped enthralling myself in Kurt's death and the end of Nirvana a long time ago and began just listening to the music for what it is and how great it is. Music never dies. But, anyway, if I'm not mistaken - this song was "written" way before Kurt's death. It was a song they'd been tinkering with, writing and re-writing. I think Kurt changed his mind on the lyrics many times based on how he was feeling at that moment. They played it as "On The Mountain" (which might have been a bootleggers error in naming the song) and it's also been called "Autopilot" and/or "You've Got No Right"? The lyrics are different, but the rhythm and timbre are the same. The earlier versions of the song clearly indicate this song may be about Courtney (in my opinion), although this one may have been changed a little to address Frances Bean (in my opinion). I think the 3rd verse is Kurt talking to Frances. "Let's talk about someone else...she just wants to love herself" is him saying he doesn't want to talk about Courtney and telling Frances not to expect much from her mother. This song also may very well have been a "suicide note"/good-bye to Frances (and I'm not here to argue suicide or murder - as I said, I gave that up a long while ago) as a way of trying to help her understand. It also just could have been his way of saying that he wanted to distance himself from Courtney in general. And, yes, Courtney did play this song as well and if I'm not mistaken she precluded by saying it was a song they both were working on, and talking about Kurt hearing it - then dedicating it to Kurt's mother? So if they were working on it together, how could it be about Courtney? Could be about Kurt's mother - didn't his parents get divorced and Kurt begged them to get back together? His father indicated he would try to work it out but his mother didn't want anything to do with it? What's amazing about songs, and poetry, is that a reader can never really know what the artist is writing about. Especially with Kurt Cobain - his lyrics are obviously dark, depressed, etc...but what or who can never truly be known. I could probably sit here and type miles worth of thoughts on this, but I'll end now. All I can say is I hope Frances Bean's life is a good one full of happiness. I know Courtney regained custody not so long ago. | |

Definitely appreciate the attempt, but these lyrics are incorrect as well... they got tired of livin’ in an apple goin’ black went up the mad river valley & they never looked back way up the mountain over campbell ridge up an old loggin’ road . . ‘cross an old mill bridge they built a little house out of stone they found put their backs to the plow . . put their seeds in the ground water from the spring runnin’ plenty & good from a hardwood forest . . choppin’ fire from the wood oh . . they’re livin’ the good life oh . . they’re livin’ the good life they got bread in the oven, got books on the shelf they’re lookin’ deep into each others’ eyes & deep into themselves pursuin’ ideals with grace & style & they’re makin’ ends meet with their huckleberry guile oh . . they’re livin’ the good life oh . . they’re livin’ the good life way up the mountain over campbell ridge up an old loggin’ road . . ‘cross an old mill bridge they built a little house out of stone they found put their backs to the plow and their seeds in the ground they’ve got the power of the sun . . the strength of the soil they’re findin’ peace in their hearts & faith in their toil oh . . they’re livin’ the good life oh . . they’re livin’ the good life oh . . they’re livin’ the good life |
