| Morrissey – Suedehead Lyrics | 18 years ago |

The singer is "so sorry" that he slept with this person ("good lay"). This other person seems to think that they are a couple now ("silly notes"/"Hang around"). It's probably not someone he knew too well before("Why do you telephone?"). This person was starting to catch on that the singer was not interested, and so s/he sneaked a peak at the diary. This encounter must have been the last straw for the singer because he has gone from quietly bearing it ("makes things hard for me") to being physically "sickened." Probably sickened both by this person's strong feelings, and the guilt that this person now knows that it is nothing romantic at all. The singer probably wrote all the things this person did to bother him, and is a little sickened that s/he found out. The end is basically just saying, that it was just sex, nothing else. "A good lay," but that's all. |

Love love this song! But what does the part "Come on party people won't you listen to me Date rape stylee" mean? Who are the party people? What is a date rape stylee? Takes a particular kind of weirdo (The kind of weirdo we all love appparantly) to make fun of such a serious topic in such a (for the most part) sucessful way! |

Re: Michealwk -- That's why the question is "what does this song mean to you?" No one's saying their interpretation is law. (And just because a songwriter says "this song is about..." doesn't mean a different interpretation is wrong.) And I think this song is just so amazing. Connor's voice just gets inside me like very few other singers can. This song just makes me start smiling all over. Starting over, no matter how bad things get. |

I always thought this song was about the loved one of someone who has or is going to commit suicide, and the pain the act puts that loved one through. Although at ne point, on Voltaire's own Mailing list he describes this song as written in the point of view of the angel of death, and how it's painful for him to transport all these souls... I really don't see it. |

Don Quixote was a man who actually believed he was a knight. The most famouse scene is the scene in which he he aproaches a field with several windmills in it, although he doesn't see the windmills, he sees many giants, waving their arms. He tries to fight them without sucess. However, it's not quite clear to me what that means in terms of the song. Maybe the person in this song is such a blatant imposter, that even someone as dilusional as Don Quixote can see through him. |
