Yeah, I see this song on the llines of a one-night stand. But I kind of get a Pretty Woman sense of the song. So this guy picks the girl up (maybe a prostitute) where he solely wanted her for sex:
Not a single word we said
Delights still without fears
Occasinally you showed a smile
But what was the need
They didn't need to talk, just straight to the sex and she occasionally showed a smile just to show him she was "enjoying him". And the coldness he felt was her and his inability to warm up to eachother afterwards. And he hates to admit it, but he was starting to have real feeling for her, but realizes she doesn't and is trying to come up with excuses:
We said goodbye before we said hello
I hardly even like you
I shouldn't care at all
We met just six hours ago
The music was too loud
From your bed I gained a day and lost a bloody year
**In love with this song!
And yeah, the person is thinking of Ummagumma |

I just love how it's I love you, nor do I. I think that would mean, yeah you say you love me now, but I know it's just the pleasure talking, so me neither, I don't really love you either, just the pleasure I get from you. Nevertheless, it's a really beautiful song and the new, I kid you not, Vibrator remix is just as excellent!! I agree with WanderingGypsy! |

It's just another Oasis song that the Noel Gallagher wrote to sound like the Beatles...but in any case, Oasis is a fucking unbelievable band and this is by far their greatest achievement!! |

Yeah, I think the song is about a girl that was abused, either as a chiild, or by the guy she is currently seeing only she doesn't really know this guy is hurting and/or using her. For a Spice Girls song, it's really really good!! That's why in the phone conversation she's finally getting that he's using and manipulating her. I really like this song |

Wow, what an amazing and powerful song. I guess i would say it's about two people that were on the edge of becoming a couple and then they had a falling out and he has no idea why. But I just love the melody and beat of the song, very powerful and catchy! |

I might have to conclude that this is my favorite Talking Heads song....either this or Sax and Violins. I've always thought this song was about a girl who get's a different guy everynight and just takes a guys breath away...then leaves the next day and blows them off afterwards. David Byrne basically states that he won't let her do that to him and thus she falls in love with him(I'm gonna take you for a ride, and hit you right between the eyes), only for him to blow her off the next day (I shot you down, who's gonna help you now?) and for some reason, she's turned on by him blowing her off. This song is sooooo amazing, once I start listening to this song, it really takes a lot to take me away from it! |

It's self explanatory, but nevertheless, it's amazing!!! I just love to turn all the lights off in my apartment, lay down, close my eyes, and listen to this song. It's so entrancing! David Byrne is a genius... |

it definitly fits as a love song but also as a song about the environment and the punishment we put on it. As soon as I heard this song I couldn't stop listening to it, it completely grabbed my attention and still to this day has not let me go. Pure genius!!! |

Wow, I can't believe anyone hasn't gotten this yet.... it's about the Son of Sam killer in NYC in the 70's. I remember watching a Talking Heads documentary and David Byrne discussing this song and how he felt this needed to be said about David Burkowitz or however the hell you spell his last name. Amazing song! |

I always thought this song was about NYC for some reasons, maybe just having all these types of people living(hookers, immigrants(man from the old world), basket people, murders) in one place, and how he wants to leave, but when it comes down to it, it's just too exciting of a place. The horns at the end could represent car horns throughout the city...but that might be stretching it. One of my favorite songs of all time! |

From an interview in 1983 called "Three into One":
"Our manager, when he first heard it, thought it was about abortion, the kind of feeling of the, you know, the fetus, if you like, saying to the Mother 'Please give me a chance, can't you feel my heart, don't take away my last chance', all those lyrics are in the song but in fact what it is, is just about a young teenager that's got a mother fixation with a prostitute that he's just happened to have met in passing and he has such a strong feeling for her and doesn't understand why she isn't interested in him. It's a bit like Niven in 'The Moon's A Balloon', I don't know if you've read that book, he's very young, just come out of cadet college or whatever, and he meets this quite, you know, 45 year old prostitute who he has a fantastic time with. He's special to her but it definitely can't go any further than what it is and that's really what the song is about, with sinister overtones." - Phil Collins. |

I don't really get the prostitution references. I understand the abortion theory completely. If that's the case, it's a really sad song. But if about a prostitute, then it's really good. I mean I love the song either way, but it just takes on completely different emotions to the listener depending on their version of the song. |

I always thought, since I first heard this song in the movie "Velvet Goldmine" that this song was about someone under a lot of pressure from the media and/or someone who is hiding something and someone else is spying on them, maybe taking photos of them without them knowing. One of my favorite songs of all time, truely amazing!! |

No matter what this songs about (heroin, cutting yourself, and ex-girlfriend or potential girlfriend, and/or depression) it's a sad and tragic song. I cry everytime I hear it b/c I could imagine someone going through this...hell everyone has felt like this at some point in time. If anyone has seen the Johnny Cash video for this song and hasn't cried, you have no emotion what so ever. |

Yeah, I have to agree with ana99, this video wasn't the greatest. Mark Romanek directed the videos for "Closer" and "Perfect Drug" and he is GENIUS WITH TRENT REZNOR!!!!!!!! Yeah, this song is confusing in a sense b/c of the video, but not a bad song about a guy who imagines a girl overall. |

Yet another great song by Fiona Apple...I love the jumpiness of the song with the effects and everything. I think this song is similar to "Shadowboxer" in that she's falling for someone she used to love or at least thinks she used to love, maybe just making an excuse. But it's been so long that she's starting to forget him or loving him or something to that effect. I just can't stop listening to this song and "Not About Love" on Extraordinary Machine. Great Great Stuff!!!!! |

Ya, when I first looked at these lyrics, I didn't think they were right. But now that people have corrected them, it makes more sense. I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! My favorite on Extraordinary Macine. If anyone has seen the video, it's amazing. She livened up the song by putting Zach Galifianakis in the video with him singing the song. It's very good. All I have to say is THANK GOD FOR FIONA APPLE!!!! |

My favorite Fiona Apple song. My favorite line "Oh, it's so evil babe, the way you let your grace enrapture me". The piano in this is song is like nothing I've ever heard before. Truely one of the best songs written and an amazing piece to listen to no matter what mood you're in. Can't get enough of it, even after 9 years. |

This is BY FAR my favorite Pink Floyd Song of ALL TIME!! It's beautiful and breath-taking and just an amazing amazing song. I do think this song is about a dream and the different stages of night, but I also think it's about being intimate and enjoying the company of your love. Just a great song that will always relax me and take me away. |

I love this song for so many different reasons. I love hearing it in concert since Jeff screams "NOTHING" for like 5 min. straight. It also reminds me of people that I can see this song relating to. I think this song is about a guy who is reflecting on this girl he loved, but she wasn't sure if she loved him. After nothing comes of the relationship the guy dreams of, he gets angry at her and his love turns the hate. Very powerfull stuff!! Wilco wrote the soundtrack to my life. |
