I will agree with the comments already posted - good insight. My two cents is that sometimes we are so selfish always wanting more and more and we feel that we need fill our hearts and minds with material things but the line "Cause when our hearts are full we need much less" - SO TRUE. All the material things in the world will never truly satisfy our hearts. What a great and catchy song that you don't get sick of. |

I know it sounds weird but I have always taken Counting Crows and put on own spin on the meaning of the song and what it means to me. I have always loved this song but recently it has had a greater meaning for me. I call my 8 month old daughter my little "monkey" and the lines in the sounds always hits me with her: "We'll I'm all messed up That's nothing new Hey monkey when you open up your blue eyes I don't know if I'm wide awake or dreaming But all I ever need is everything" It always makes me think of my blue eyed "monkey" and makes me can't wait to get home to see her after working all day. I probably way off on the meaning but I don't care. |

I heard this song on "Scrubs" the other night and made me remember how much I loved this song when I first got "X&Y". I know that more than likely why Chris wrote this song, about someone dying. But I believe songs are like poetry and can be interrupted on many levels. The first line in the song..."When you try your best, but you don't succeed" I feel like I am there right now, I am doing the best I possible can, but things are just not working out. But I know that I can follow that path home and someone will be there...to fix me. Song is just awesome. |

| This is a very good song, I have heard of MCR and never really was interested when hearing some of there past songs, but this song is decent. I am a firm believer that you take what you want out of the song. I don't care if it was written for a grandmother, dad, sister, family dog, 3rd cousin twice removed on the mothers side, whatever. I take it as a powerful song about losing something and trying how to figure out how to feel about it. Just my opinion don't slam me too bad. Thanks. | |
