| Bad Religion – Epiphany Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Here is what I think: this song is about how some revelation, epiphany, comes to a person. This person then shares this with others, wether through a religious book, a philosophy, a manifesto, whatever. As the idea 'travels' from person to person and, especially, down the river of time, it becomes distorted, abused and fades. Jesus' condemnation of dogmatism & advocacy of tolerance becomes a dogmatic religion Marx' essentially economic system becomes a totaliarian political system. (Animal Farm, BTW, describes the process in this song wonderfully) Nietzsche's Ubermensch becomes Nazi Ubermensch (In a slightly different context, Nazis went out of their way to corrupt things as opposed to gradual corruption over a long period) |

| Bad Religion – Inner Logic Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
But it's cruel and antithetic[sic] This is a very important part of this song. I basically agree with what was said before, but this adds the reason why people don't want to see the logic: compared to the fairy tales we belief in, the universe as it actually is is cold and uncaring. It's saying, I think, that many people CHOOSE to be deceived. |

| I always thought it was about fighting a dificult battle against The Music Industry. You know, he hasn't gotten very far and thinks he should have sold out back then. | |
