this songs okay, i got the album and there are some seriously awesome tracks, flea does a great job with these cds. regarding this song however, simultaneous release is where a film is released in the cinema and on dvd at the same time, which essentially means people will stop going to the cinemas coz they have a fuckin massive tv and they dont like the smell of spew.. so i dont know where it fits in, but obviously "california rest in peace, simultaneous release" says it all the fictional dani could be comprised of all the hollywood style characteristics of a woman or something, maybe hes making that inference while at the same time speaking out for hollywood.. i really dont know enough about it, im a simple aussie :P |

this ones tougher than i originally thought..the only things id be prepared to "drive a stake down and state" are that its a relationship, in which he developed bad habits as he was "misguided by the 405", using the highway as a metaphor, and so consequently her folks would disapprove..her alcohol and cigarettes, or the remnants of these habits, she hides from them..thats all iv got.. but i do reckon "you keep twisting the truth, that keeps me thrown askew" means shes lying to him, making him stay in the relationship, although she will eventually need to let him go as marriage is not an option. | oh guys come oooon!! u cant let ur own context get in the way of ur interpretation, just coz he mentions poison doesnt mean shit, thats a metaphor just like the candle, the sun and the punches..ok, so one of u sed the common theme on the album was conflict..goodo! il use that word..its JUST about someone standing up for what they believe in, even though doing so may not make any difference in the scheme of things..in regard to the interpretation of it being about a relationship, the only phrase that hints this at all is "watch as she lies silent"..so maybe the conflict is with her????? shes silent now, but soon that will be gone, and shell fight with him????? i cant explain that, but the it can only be about him in some sort of conflict where he refuses to back down because he knows hes right, and even if it wont make a difference he will remain indifferent..here endeth my thoughts :) | |

wooooo, great love song, i think suchprettywords is spot on, hes looking to vicariously discover his idyllic frame of mind, a "place where they're Far more suited than here"..this frame of mind is only found with his partner, when the "silence" takes them, and just by being with her they "turn the dirt", discovering things, and by doing this they are "cleansing" themselves..listening to it for the first time tonite tho id have to say it sounds more like "runs" than "roads" no? i think this actually fits in better, and that here hes saying its not the running and physicality of the relationship that matters, "BUT if the silence takes you then I hope it takes me too." the silence is what matters, its really a morass of metaphors which they tie together to create probly one of the best songs iv heard..NOW to listen to the rest of the album!! haha |
