Jason Mraz – Plane Goes Down Lyrics 20 years ago
This songs is by far the best song Mraz has written.
It means alot to me personally because I feel exactly how the lyrics are expressed. Leaving someone you loved at a place that is home to them but not home to you, can feel like "well, if the plane goes down, at least I loved you, at least I knew you" . At least that has been my recent experience at an airport. The songs about being detached from your loved one in body, but being attached to them in spirit no matter where you go.

Damien Rice – Cold Water Lyrics 20 years ago
Cold water is almost like a prayer to God and a plead to a lover all at once.

Damien Rice – The Blower's Daughter Lyrics 20 years ago
I think that "hero in her skies" makes more sense, only cause heros tend to fly. However, I agree that "no hero in her scar" also makes good sense in that heros can be viewed as peace makers and in that sense heal scars. Just thought that was interesting.

Damien Rice – Cannonball Lyrics 20 years ago
My two favorite lines:
there's still a little bit of your ghost
your weakness (though I always thought it was "witness" instead of "weakness")

and

courage teach me to be shy.

Damien Rice – Cannonball Lyrics 20 years ago
I feel like this song, like many other Damien Rice songs, is open to independant interpretation. I've always interpreted Cannonball as a song about leaving a relationship before it was really over. Loving someone, yet not under the right time frame.
I feel as though a guy is looking back on his time with the girl and realizing he took for granted what he had. THe lyrics:
stones taught me to fly
love, it taught me to lie
life, it taught me to die
so it's not hard to fall
when you float like a cannonball
These lyrics explore contrasts between for ex. : stones and flying. Stones are seen as a gravitative force, while flying defys gravity. Just as he says "so it's not hard to fall when you float like a cannonball" I believe he's saying that like many other things in his life which defy nature and go wrong, his love for this woman has emulated that pattern. However, I also think that he feels good about it, it's almost as if it is the one thing in his life he accepts to defy nature. I guess, in a box, he's lost a unique love and ultimately it becomes a personal battle of losing everything.
