| Opeth – The Apostle In Triumph Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Here's my interpretation. The song is about a man (the protagonist) who has preached all he can to a world of hate and evil, and has been heard by a deaf ear. The raven is a symbol of the omen of man's plight, which the main character was not able to avert in his lifetime. In his final hour he is being accepted into heaven as a reward for his noble attempts, but he is unsatisfied because he was unable to accomplish his goal "Through the eternal flame I travel, and the rain keeps falling..." | |

| In Flames – Pinball Map Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Do you guys not know what a pinball map is? It's that board game where you have the two wheels on the side of the box and try to guide the little pinball around the map without it falling in the holes. It's hard as fuck. Other than knowing facts, I'm not very good with metaphors, but the pinball is helpless without the control of the person playing the game, but the person playing the game has a near 0% chance of winning. | |

| What do you guys think about this song maybe being written from the female perspective about a love who left and has returned? | |

firstly, i agree with everyone else who thinks this is IF's most badass song my favorite line in the song is definitely "I found a flame in the burnt out ashes... burn out, burn out" reminds me a lot of the relationship i'm trying to get over. my ex broke up with me about a year ago and just when i think i've gotten over it, i see her around or think about her and realize how much i miss her. i can't get over it and just hope that every day i'll wake up and she won't be on my mind. Anders keeps finding a flame in the burnt out ashes of his past relationship, and he's crying for it to finally burn out |

here's what i've come up with for the song this is nothing more than a relationship gone bad as a result of something his partner has done to hurt him, likely cheating on him "i didn't want to know" is just that, he doesn't want to know what he may suspect is happening "best to keep things in the shallow end cause i never quite learned how to swim" - this is likely his first true relationship where he is madly in love with somebody and he is unprepared for a potentially crushing blow "close my eyes just to look at you taken by the seamless vision. i close my eyes, ignore the smoke, ignore the smoke, ignore the smoke" - he sees his partner the way he wants to see her. when he closes his eyes he sees the love of his life and is captivated by it. he is ignore the smoke being the false face that she puts on when she is with him when she is in fact cheating on him. he suspects it and tries to ignore it "call an optimist she's turning blue" - in the case of this song, "blue" is the depression she is going into when she realizes what she has done. she has cheated on the man who loves and cares for her like no other and now she is getting what she deserves. "such a perfect color for you" "mistook their nods for an approval, just ignore the smoke and smile" - his friends are trying to hint to him, they're nodding and telling him that his suspicions are true but he continues to ignore them and smile as if nothing is wrong anyway, that's my interpretation. feel free to comment as you will |
