U2 – Heartland Lyrics 10 months ago
@[acmc87:47328] I think you're getting your u2 songs mixed up.

I think the song you're thinking of is 'Bullet the Blue Sky':

"And I can see those fighter planes
And I can see those fighter planes"

Bell X1 – Rocky Took A Lover Lyrics 17 years ago
Apparently Rocky was a homeless person who stayed across the road from Paul (Noonan - the lead singer) when he lived in Smithfield, Dublin.

The story goes that one morning he came across him and he had 'pulled' (i.e. he managed to bring some girl back with him), which led Paul to imagining how the conversation between them might go.

The lyrics are absolutely amazing:

"He said 'I wanna shine in the eye of Orion
But I drove my soul through the Black Hole!'
She said 'What a wonderful way to wake me"

How lyrical, how beautiful - it reminds me of Yeats so much - a complete romantic dreamer (and it even has a nice Oscar Wilde reference in here too: "And from this gutter we're still staring at the stars")... fantastic.

Bell X1 are Ireland's best-kept secret.

Bell X1 – Just Like Mr Benn Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about the difficulties involved in maintaining a long-distance relationship:

"Put your sweet fingers a little closer to the keyboard
...you bat your eyelids from across the ocean
...you send your flare to the horizon
...We pass like ships in the night"

It's obvious that he really wants the relationship to work out and would do anything to make it so but doesn't know where he stands with regard to the other person: "I don't even know if I'll be welcome". Hence the Mr. Benn reference "But what if I appeared as if by magic? Just like in Mr Benn".

Beautiful song. Great band.

Radiohead – Talk Show Host Lyrics 18 years ago
First things first - I don't profess to know what this song's about. Short of the author commenting on what he/ she had in his head when writing it, we're unlikely to get to it's true meaning (and of all the songwriters, Thom Yorke is probably one of the most likely to leave his lyrics open to interpretation).

One thing that I will say though is that it is an incredible sexy song. Yes - Radiohead - SEXY! Whether it's the association with movie or the slow, almost nonchalant delivery of the verses building to the climatic choruses or the lyrics - "You want me? Well fuckin' well come and find me... I'm ready." could easily be a text message from some cocksure Romeo sent to tease his Juliet or vice-versa (and this from the same author who once wrote "I'm a freak, I'm a wierdo, I don't belong here, I wish I was special") - it's a real turn-on.

You don't believe me? Making out to Radiohead sound a bit far-out eh? Well, if you don't believe me then turn your lights down low, put this tune on your stereo and get down with your Romeo/ Juliet (as Van Morrison once wrote) 'to what is really wrong'...
