I think inpraiseoffolly got it spot-on. In my opinion, this is one of Pink Floyd's best songs, and the album is also one of their best. |

| To the people above raving about Waters: This song was one of the few Pink Floyd songs written completely by Gilmour, with no contribution from the rest of the band. | |
| Pink Floyd – The Gnome Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I'm guessing that the drug meaning is partly true, mostly because Syd did do a lot of drugs. It is either just a song about the gnome, or a song about drugs and the gnome. Anyone thinking it has some connection to Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit, there is no doubt that this very closely resembles the Hobbit, but I think, if anything, it is a loose reference to it. Anyway, it's a great song. |

The meaning of this song is not so clear if everyone is saying it is clearly something else. Don't say things that make it seem like you think your answer/guess is so obvious. I don't mean to sound so negative, but that was really annoying me... I think it is more general than everyone is saying it is. It can pretty much be applied to any dispute between a stronger side and a weaker side. It seems more like a metaphor of humanity in general, and how one group acts if they see another more successful group. |

| Led Zeppelin – The Battle of Evermore Lyrics | 20 years ago |

You're all missing the most obvious thing. The title comes directly from the text. READ THE BOOK. I believe it was the battle in front of the gates of Mordor, but I can't find it right now (It might be in the Silmarillion). The numerous references to LOTR are obvious. You would notice if you actually read the book. Anyone arguing against The Battle of Evermore being based on LOTR obviously knows nothing about LOTR. |
