I love Mariah, and I first listened to this song whilst listening to her Greatest Hits on holiday with my friends and my school to the south of France for like, two weeks. I fell in love with it. I listened to it non-stop and every night before I went to sleep. Its so beautiful and catchy and carries a lot of memories. |

When I first heard this song I heard the lyrics differently. I thought it was: 'But if the ecstacy's in the weddings definitely out' So I thought it was about a newly engaged couple arguing about their issues, but I was obviously wrong. I also thought it was: 'Please take it easy it CAN all be my fault' Like the guy is saying he will take all the blame for the argument this time, just to stop them arguing which I thought was a pretty cute theory too, but again, I was obviously wrong :P Thank God for SongMeanings, I’d have never knew the real lyrics! And as for the gay theory, 1)blueowl92, you are horridly homophobic and I hope you get banned from this site and... 2)If Kurdt heard the lead singer confirm it live then there isn't really much point in continuing the argument. I can't believe i'm the first one to comment on this song! Its so beautiful, especially the line 'who says that broken pieces don't mend'. Its basically about a girl who has taken advice from her friends and either broken up with her b/f or their relationship isn't going well. People say broken peices (of their relationship, heart etc.) don't mend but Kubbs saying they do if you let them grow. Sweet. |

It could be him talking about a relationship he was in and al the flaws with his girlfriend, then at the end of every line 'All sparks will burn out in the end' : he doesn't have to worry cos the relationship will eventually fall apart. This song was one of the only Damien Rice songs I used to just not listen to. I'm not sure why, I guess it just struck me as a bit odd, but now I have listened to it properly, its a really beautiful song. Its actually called 'The Professor & La Fille Danse'. I think its two different songs on one live track, which is why the first half is in English and the second in French. So the title to 'The Professor' is also in Enlish. |

Ænima_Spiral, you do need to get over yourself a bit. This song in particular is a bit rubbish (in my opinion) and I don't see why, if you hate it so much, you looked it up and commented on it. I only looked it up to see if Missy said 'Shake it like Jello' or 'like J-Lo' and I only commented on it when 'flesh into gear' said all hip-hop and rap is rubbish and requires no talent which is SO UNTRUE. Anyone can learn an instrument or, in theory, learn to sing (or get away with doing it badly), but it takes a good artist to write songs with something important to say and get their message across. In all genres, its about 50/50 of artists who can write good, meaningful songs and those who just do it for money, fame etc. Yes that’s ALL genres, Ænima_Spiral, not just hip-hop. There are lots of talented hip-hop acts and lots of untalented trashy bands out there. And also, just because someone is a fan of one type of music, doesn't mean they can't be a fan of other types too. I like lots of types of music, including hip-hop. Maybe you should broaden your horizons a bit? |

Every one else so far has said this song is about a couple (boyfriend/girlfriend) trying to run away but i always enterprited it differently. 'You see, my old man's got a problem, Lives with the bottle, that's the way it is He says his body's too old for workin', I say his body's too young to look like his, My mama went off and left him, Wanted more from life than he could give, I said somebody's got to take care of him, So I quit school and that's what I did.' I think its about a daughter and her father. He' s an unemployed alcoholic and the mother leaves him (hence 'My mama went off and left him') So the daughter had to quit school to care for him. Being naive schoolgirl she thinks the two of them can drive away and start afresh but her dad can't get work and spends his time down the pub with his friends. She ends up working a dead end market job living in poverty. But i'm probably wrong... |

I love this song - its definately one of my favourite songs. 'it's "I walk through the valley of the shadow of death" hasn't anyone heard that expression before?' idiot_box, yes - we have all heard of that expression, but Kanye has changed it to 'Chi' as in 'Chi-town' as in Chicago, where he is from. I agree with what Born2BaStar1991 said about this song being to do with black slavery, (i heard that the 'bom, bom bom,' in the background is suppost to represent the chanting of black slaves while they were working in the field or something like that), but saying: ''writing about how the whites used to abuse the blacks so this is what this song is trying to show You guys how we felt!'' is rediculasly stupid. I agree with Comrade_Liar. Has any1 else heard Rhymefests verse of this? Its really good, it was originally in the the song but it eventually got cut out. Rhymefest is a genius, and so is Kanye West. |
