well, 50, i'm sorry, but i'm going to have to disagree with you. i believe this song is about how everything is so fake nowadays, and gavin should know as he grew up in new york city (haha! i grew up in hawaii :P) chocolate covered cherries are just smothering the taste of the cherrie in chocolate because more people like chocolate than they do cherries, and seedless watermelons is removing a part of a melon to make it taste better, although it already tasted fine. i think 'chariot' refers to some sort of a greater power. maybe whatever god gavin believes in? the golden waves refer to this being's power, and emphasizes how great this power is by referring to it as 'golden'. he is asking for strength from this god or being. he is asking for them to lend some of this golden power to him. to tell you the truth i can't make any sense of the second verse except perhaps 'The sun was just yellow energy'. this means that when you posess this power i've spoken of, the sun, which to humans is very powerful and can be harmful if not delt with properly, is merely a yellow ball of pitiful energy. 'you'll be my vacation away from this place' refers to him absorbing this golden power and using it to get away from this world. if you think about it, this COULD be about drugs if it was by someone else, but i don't think gavin is the type to sing about drugs. |

we talked about the meaning of this song in my english class. i'll never look at it the same. as my teacher described it, you think you know everything about something, and it turns out you know nothing at all about it. each verse talks about something more important as it moves throughout the song. from clouds which arent very important, they just kinda decide whether it rains or not that day. if it's sunny, thats good, go have fun with your day. if its rainy, oh well, its not that huge of a deal. then you get to love. when you love someone, you become completely absorbed in them. you think about that person all the time, and you feel happy, as if you can concour the whole world. but then, if you get rejected, you feel horrible, or even naive that you were so infatuated with that person. life... you live, you die. its the whole world to you. life is over, you are over. you are gone. not gone from the hearts of those who love you, but gone in this mortal world. i think its the biggest thing that humans can imagine. the thought of heaven, or hell, or whatever is very elusive to the human mind. i dont think humans can truly grasp the concept of eternity. so, we settle for thinking of out mortal life as the biggest thing to us. |

wow. this is the most amazing song i've ever heard in my life. recently my great uncle died after tripping down the stairs. they tried to get him to the hospital but he died in the amulance. my great uncle had been very weak and sick just before his death, but my great aunt was always right beside him no matter what. i don't think i've ever cried because of a song, but when i heard this one i felt the tears there. none were shed, but it got closer than it ever has before. |

personally, i think this song is about how a man and a woman had a relationship that was never really true, and more of lust than love. "cause I built you a home in my heart with rotten wood that decayed from the start" i think this means that he started a relationship that was so rocky and would never last. "and you can't find nothing at all if there was nothing there all along no you can't find nothing at all if there was nothing there all along" i think this means that right before or after their break up he started to contimplate his love for her. then realized he had none for her, and never did. thats just my theory. i suck at figuring out what songs mean, so this is probably about as close to the real meaning as a lizard is close to a toaster. |
