When Jesus said "why have you forsaken me" and "Father into your hands I commend my spirit", he was not saying it out of defiance of his purpose, or a sudden doubt of all his preachings. He wasn't depressed or angry with God, he was simply confused.
"self-righteous suicide" = the one committing does not care to ask everyone in their web of impact (family, friends, admirers, etc.) for consent to them dying. Likewise, a smoker doesn't survey everyone that will breathe in their second-hand smoke at restaraunts, gas stations, department stores, anywhere to confirm that all these people approve of the decision. Because if the ones hypothetically being asked actually measured up to their relationship label, or were just at a healthy sanity level, they would hesitationlessly refuse the questioner's idea being turned into reality. Ironically, suicide-which more often than not results in a low self-esteem having person-, is one of the most selfish actions someone can take. |

"always want to play but never want to lose", "always want to go but never want to stay"...
SOAD touches on us choosing something and not accepting another thing that inevitably tags along with it. If society/Americans had to decide between all (wanted and un-) or nothing, I think they would choose nothing. This song raises the question-is it worth playing even if you risk/actually end up losing? YES.
with "life is a waterfall, we're one in the river and one again after the fall"-when the true hardballs of difficulty as never imagined are thrown at is, we close ourselves off and refuse expressing it so we could all be one happy identifying entity. Nah, we take the easy road more traveled by and overcome our struggles singularly, isolated. When the sailing is smooth, we can open our doors again and let people come in, but the relationships will always have an expiration date as long as the state of mind is as such. |

As far as "no televisions in the air", I think SOAD is either saying: in heaven, there will be no media and the detachment from worldly petty issues will be blissful. Or, another option is that there is no way of communicating between heaven and earth, which is why the God speaker is asking so many questions that are probably bouncing off of the child's oblivion. |

Anyone thought of the Garden of Eden? the "Forest of Denial"? I think that the lines of "tell everyone in the world that I'm you...why can't you see that you are my child" are partly God speaking and partly Satan with part of his manipulation scheme. I know SOAD is atheist, but it seems like they (quite admirably) came to this conclusion after "surveying the other options". They're not saying they agree with it, they're just putting the facts out there.They also realize that some of their fans are Christian so this will appeal to them.

I used to think the words were "You saw the light, you soar, you soar. You shall no more [walk?] a one way street." Actually, those lyrics got to me and made the song even more inspiring. I could just lay on my floor meditating/breathing to this song. I love how humble the Sigur Rosers were to not try and interfere with the holiness that compelled them to create this. They are such messengers of something beyond. I'm so grateful to them for not attempting to write lyrics for this one, they would have fallen so short to the feelings that this experience witholds. |

I can see this as a "Sponsor a Child this second or their eyes, as shown, will enlarge to the extent that they will come find you in your guilt-ridden body and crush you" commercial. It'd really get to people who naturally wouldn't feel anything but apathetic..I don't see why the organizaiton hasn't snagged it yet. |

slash..the video is so uniquely moving and fitting. It's the kind where someone could watch it 75 times and get something fresh and unseen out of it each time. (I wonder if the kids knew what they were actually a part of) A lot of the content seemed really beyond me....And all we comprehend ultimately, is our incomprehension. |
