amanda palmer posted a blog about this song and video. its in relation to a person she was dating at the time who drifted away from her. the astronauts must feel a similar feeling of extreme distance in space, ya?
also, the "i want to touch the back of your right arm" lyric is in relation to a tattoo of his that she sketched on one of their dates, which she really liked. and apparently that sketch was her only real memento of the relationship.
they fell out of contact for a while, so i think when she says 'i would gladly stay an afterthought/just bring back some nice reminders' that shes ok waiting for him while he does his own thing, as long as he has soomething to show for it, or as long as its worth it [for him and her.]
'the random frantic action' line is a direct quote from a book entitled "a short history of nearly everything" and which AP thought to be "one of the most beautiful explanations of how electrons work" in her opinion.
also, the Frost poem that she borrowed that line from is about being familiar with the darkness in a city, both literal and figurative. shes saying that although darkness may be present in obvious situations [as in the dark of night] it can also be hiding in unexpected places [in plain daylight] and she reminds him that they both have that knowledge. |

i luuuuv this song because it takes the little kids jump rope rhyme, and turns it completely insane... specially at the end... and how theres no way out for "mister", "it serves you right for kissing little girls but i will visit if you miss me" so i really like it. ohohohohoh, and the music teacher, whoever came up with that idea above me was briliant. |
