John Frusciante – Time Tonight Lyrics 20 years ago
I agree with FruscianteFan. In the day, everybody and everything is busy and there are natural distractions everywhere. At night, it's the only time you can get lost in your own thoughts and THEN question what has happened in the day just gone, and in your life in general.

I think this applies to the last few lines in particular. - 'Why is there no one in my life', ' There's no room to see wide' Questioning the people who are in your life, feeling blinkered and only able to look at certain things in a certain light because of your experiences.

Wonder what it is that makes the world turn slower',
'Wonder what it is that makes me feel so mad',
'There's no time tonight' - You have too many thoughts swirling around your head, and not enough time to question them all and find the answers you wish.

For changing lines
I've got no time tonight
These lines always strike me personally as a reference to symbolising your life as a play. (You appear on stage, you interact with people, you experience different stages and feelings, and then the, urm, curtain calls.) Therefore, 'for changing lines, I've got no time tonight', perhaps signifies you wanting to change your script to go back and do things differently, or simply to put you in a more favourable place in the future. It could also be a reference to John's feelings towards his own songwriting.

when the wake up's hard to find
Dreams make up for your life

Not wanting to have to face the day, and face everyone around you. You feel that being asleep is the only chance you have to control your own life and dream about things you wish you had in your life. Dreaming could also represent creativity of the mind - and songwriting could be described as creativity of the mind.

This crazy shine it never lets you die
'Shine' could symbolise fame - a never dying light that puts you on a pedestal, a spotlight, and you feel you can't get away from it. It could also represent the spotlight you put upon yourself - pressure to complete everything you do in the highest possible standard.

Such a great song.

John Frusciante – Regret Lyrics 20 years ago
I love this song, and the fact that it only has two lines makes it all the more powerful. I agree with i love JF - everybody could tell their own story behind this song and what it means to them and each one would be unique.

John Frusciante – Goals Lyrics 20 years ago
I could truly just listen to this song all day. One of my favourites. I think the beauty of many of John's songs is that you can interpret them in your own personal way. So, here I go...

To me, this song is about someone who had lost their way in life, and feel they have no purpose no more. For me personally, the line 'goals disrupt the past' can be interpreted as goals and dreams you have and aim for, but cannot achieve, because of things that have happened in the past to you and things you have said/done. Therefore, always longing for a chance to fufil your goals disrupts the natural order of your past simply being your past, because you cannot forget the things that have stopped you from being happy. You live with regrets, and you live constantly thinking about the past.

The line 'ghosts disrupt the past' can be applied to the same idea, but with ghosts representing memories or even people you cannot forget. They disrupt your life. The past cannot be called 'the past' because you are still re-living it.

Nothing I realize
No one I despise
Nothing to hide behind

You have not suddenly realised this about yourself. You have simply never confronted yourself with it.
You do not hate anyone or blame anyone for how you feel.
You no longer have excuses or reasons to hide behind.

Personally, this song makes me confront my life so far when I feel lost or upset. Although it is thought-provoking and sad, it makes me feel uplifted, especially towards the end.

A simple song with so many interpretations. xxx
