First, i was very impressed by rbccsmrtn analysis, and the good summary that Missxt and baqaqi did. I would just like to reconsider what many people have been arguing : the bad-guy theory (ie : he wasnt enough mature and is the one that make the girl suffer and she is totally innocent) Let's read again some lines : "but was love and it's an ache i still remember" -> Here, he claim to feel real love, the one that can bless your life or make it hard when not shared (think about the Joy Division song : love will tear us apart). You can argue true love is not pain - let's consider that love can be mixed with others emotions like deep fears so it's the same in the end. He truely feel love for her, but the greatness of this live lift up some bad emotions from his subconscious that he can't totaly manage with. "you can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness, like resignation to the end, always the end" -> Ok, he can recognize the signs, and he begin to enter the downspiral, but actually his mind has two thoughts at the same time : he consciently want things to end well, but his past and his subconscious seems to make him despair, and the only way to feel less worst is to consider this like karma, poetic, etc. Here again, it's not 100% black or white. "so when we found that we could not make sense, well you said that we would still be friends" -> Later she say that he screwed her, but she said she want them to still be friends, so who is the liar here ? Who use womanize (double reading words) here ? Certainly not the guy. "and i don't even need your love" -> The first interpretation would be : he is selfish, and need more to be liked or to feel love (whatever is the object loved) thant to love the girl for herself. I don't reject it, but my own interpretation differ totally : it could also means that he don't need a love that lead her to reject him so hard in the end, that would not be real love after all. He could be criticizing the fakeness of her words when she talk about love, dying, but in the end dont keep it and reject their story like if it was a mistake, bad AND good moments. And so on. It's just a common bad relation ending, nor the guy nor the girl and worst or better. It's just a classic dephasing anger from the girl after she realize the relation is over and resignated about ending her love for him. The only way to convert this love was to turn it into hate, that just required to rationalize it : he "screwed" her, but actually in a couple both are responsibles and here both werent : the guy kept in a shell alone, and the girl was totally passive and believed her dream would stand alone without true implication. Blaming the other just put yourself in the victim/guilt duality. Both are mixed-up and immature about relationships from different ways, lack of mothership love for the guy maybe, and lack of understanding of the reasons she love him for her. Wonderfull lyrics, great reflexion and description of humain suffering. |
