i read into this differently... i was involved with a guy who had a girfriend. he wanted us both but he wanted me more-- he just didn;t know how to tell the other girl he was cheating and he wanted to be with me. so he was all crazy, not knowing what to do or if he was making the right choice, so i played him this song... "don't be scared of anything at all, all we have is all we need" (don't be scared-- we have each other and you'll get through this...) "there's no one watching as we leave" (he didn;t have to tell her everything, since he didn;'t want to hurt her. he could just leave her and she wouldn';t know it was because of our thing...) so then i asked him to "say the first thing that comes into you mind when you see me" and he said he knew he wanted me. it looks right, ti feels right.... so i said "if it looks like it works and it feels like it works, then it works"!!!! "just follow me now" (just do it, come with me and we'll be together and his "worries will soon disappear" but he didn;t come with me... He started to, "you did come round but you changed your mind" so anyway, it didn't work out. but i came out on top. i decided that i was sick of the love triangle- especially of being the other woman-- it's just a big disaster and it's shameful... so "my role in this mess is not something that i can be proud of, but it's all going to change" sorry that was long, but that's what this song is about to me...

alright toolshed... i have to comment... at first i thought you were crazy- the whole fantasy lover thing- but who of us doesn't dream of the perfect mate? that was very deep of you... anyway, this song may be my favorite on the album- so deep, so inspired... so completely lost and angry, yet so perfectly beautiful. it almost is a good feeling to be so miserable about love that it hurts that bad... then you know you were really in love. and i love the details in it... it really creates a picture...

okay bob33, have you ever heard of songs being deeper than the actual lyrics? i think the line "why do you sing hallelujah if it means nothing to yah?" is the best line in the song! except i always thought it was why DID you sing hallelujah... see i think the song is about a realtionship where it meant more to one person than the other. so now he's saying that line and "why'd you sing with me at all" meaning why did you say you were in love with me when you really weren't? and you should have just said nothing and left me alone. and so now the whole relationship is so messed up. it's just to delicate to even talk about. i know i may be alone on my interpretation. the love affair makes complete sense, but this is just how i feel when i hear it...
