I think... this song is about the struggle with depression. You're stuck in a vicious cycle that you can't get out of because you actually like it in a sick way (bailing yourself out with a straw). You get stuck on 'survive'. You're no longer living your life, you're not enjoying anything, you don't even notice the things going on around you. Everyday you just go through the actions. You hate who you are and try many things to find a 'you' you and everyone else can love (religion, cruelty, friends that don't care, lovers that are strangers). You really just make everything worse for yourself (you lose all pride and self-respect, and become both physically and mentally ill). You've made the chains which are holding you down. Then you realize the mess you're in, which only you can get yourself out of. You need to love yourself and demand more from yourself - nobody can fix it but you. |
