I think most people relate lyrics to what is going on in their life at the time they first hear or read the lyrics to a song. That being said, in this case, I feel pretty strongly that this song is NOT about a girl - in fact, I think it's Jim's outlook on Jimmy Eat World, and the position they were in as a band at the time of this song's conception. Basically, I'm sure the band members were getting tired of playing to 15 people most nights. Perhaps Jim had more of a drive, more of a dream - determination. "Your not bigger than this, not better, why can't you learn" - a message to the band, and a message to himself, a reality check if you will. Don't expect too much, too soon. |

As on of my favorite songs of all time, I remember the first time I read these and how strange they were to me. I had no idea what was being said for the most part until then. It appears to me that it is almost about insanity - the thoughts inside a killer's head, or the thoughts inside of someone's head that has a screw loose. |
