| John Frusciante – Central Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Im central to nowhere Thinking of sweeping it clean When we choose to go were losing more than just our surroundings Ive gone around the sides of this universe as it stands Outside the limits of all existence Where light never ends We should be grateful to the gods Whoever theyre real to they are I value my placement as in Hell Remember that moment that I fell Anything that could one day be is as real as what Im saying If something is nothing it must not be something in any possible way Lose yourself in the far off worlds that are right under your feet Switch below with above all the way up into infinity We should be thankful who we are Whether we know ourselves or not Walking alongside myself Neither of us listens very well Im dreading a time that is not near As a man on cross I have no fear I cant believe these words Im saying You gotta feel your lines You gotta feel your lines |

| Metallica – The Day That Never Comes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The way I initially interpreted it was for it to be between a person and a drug habit they can't kick. In this sense, it is about an abusive relationship, but it's a relationship between a person and their habit, not about a relationship between two people necessarily. The way I would summarize the lyrics with this interpretation is as follows: the addiction pushes you around and makes you more and more reclusive. You lie to everyone around you and become hostile towards those who love you and end up crawling inside yourself amidst all the destruction the addiction is causing around you -- it's the only place you feel safe and sane, is in your own head in your own world and you're basically imprisoned there. You keep hoping for the day that you will be free of the imprisonment of addiction and feel the warmth of redemption (the sun shining on you), but it's ultimately a day that never comes. That's just my 2 cents on the song. I'm sure you can apply a political twist to it or something, but based on the rest of the album's lyrics, I don't think that's the direction they were heading. |

| Daughtry – All These Lives Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Songs can be about anything you interpret them to mean, and I can understand the child abduction theme going on. But to me this song is more about a parent figure aging and losing touch with his/her children as they grow up and become adults, where the abductor is not an actual person, but the disease of time/aging. | |
| Alice in Chains – Head Creeps Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I especially love this song, always have. I love how this album progresses... it thuds its way into the start with Grind, then later on how the crazy ending to Sludge Factory leads into one of the most beautiful acoustic songs, Heaven Beside You. The way Head Creeps aggressively follows Heaven Beside You with it's twisting guitar riffs and addicitive drumming and dark subject matter, it's just badass. I never get sick of listening to this album from start to finish. I guess this song is about slipping into trying something one more time (most likely drugs) because your mind thinks it won't cause you to be addicted again, but then he gets slapped in the face by that naive thought. One day my plane leaves is kind of like "I don't need drugs, I will take the high road." then the next thing he knows he convinces himself he could try just one more time, and then realizes as this cycle continues, before he knows it, he won't have anymore time because he'll be dead, hence "no more time". In a lot of ways this song seems like Layne arguing with himself as to why he should not slip into drugs again or why he is safe to do it again. Like having the devil on one shoulder and then the angel figure on the other shoulder arguing what he should do. | |
| Tool – Viginti Tres Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is an example of Tool creating something with no true deep meaning. It's sole purpose is fucking with people's minds, particularly those who try to over-analyze their music as if it has some hidden message, just like Lipan Conjuring and Die Eier Von Satan. | |
| Tool – 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Such an inspiring song. It is 2:48 AM where I am right now. I have gotten no sleep at all tonight my mind is not at ease in this tough time in my life. So I put on this CD because, usually I play this song and it's so mellow it puts me to sleep. Not the case tonight. The meaning of the song seemed to really be reinforced this time around. This song really speaks to me about taking the hardships dealt to us in life and being able to as it states "hold your own head up high" and do your best to be the best person you are capable of being and not giving up to the feelings of depression and frustration evoked by a sense of hopelessness. Well now it is 2:51 AM here, my mind is much more at ease. Good night. | |
| Tool – Vicarious Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| While I agree that Maynard is singing about living vicariously through visuals on the television, I don't think he is completely against the idea in this song. Nowhere does he indicate that he despises the idea of it. In fact I remember an interview where he talks something about this -- the fact that we need movies, music, etc., with violence and horrific acts in order to release our true inner emotions and feelings through those means that way we don't go crazy and go off killing people ourselves. People are afraid to simply admit it when they get a notion to watch horrific things or listen to horrific things. | |
| Alice in Chains – It Ain't Like That Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
BenLee, this song was actually written by Jerry, Mike and Sean. At least the song notes say that, or perhaps you know something we all don't? I think you are close but in my head the song is simpler than that. It's almost a mix between your interpretation and gofigure000's thoughts. It basically says I went through this stage in my life but that was only me in the past. Now I am a different person who has changed and grown with experience. I am not that person you think I used to be anymore. |

| Alice in Chains – Fear The Voices Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| There has not been a "draft" in a long ass time. AIC only wrote songs about themselves. That idea is pretty unrealistic but suite yourself. | |
| Alice in Chains – Distance Aside Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is actually by the band Thread. I posted these lyrics BEFORE that info was released on the internet and I found that out on the Jerry Cantrell message boards about a month ago. Not my fault... that same site (bacus.net) said this song was AIC and everyone did as it was on the TWP boot. Can't blame me so dont come here and bitch quickpost. | |

| Jerry Cantrell – Bargain Basement Howard Hughes Lyrics | 19 years ago |

You've both got it wrong. Sugar, you forgot the first part of the song that contains "slivers" instead of "splinters." Straight from my handy dandy Degradation Trip notebook: Don't deny I did you cold I broke your trust and lied Controlling, selfish, gossip abound Cocaine mouth over mind And I say... I wash my hands, pull the slivers No master plan, I deliver Enigma wrapped in riddle Your life I belitte Dignity I'd stea Now I know how it feels Stubborn bastard, hard head knocking We had our good years too Though apart, you're still in my heart I'd give anything for you And I say... I was my hands, pull the splinters No master plan, I deliver Enigma wrapped in riddle Your life I belitte Dignity I'd steal Now I know how it feels Often heard, seldom seen Bargain Basement Howard Hughes Hermit phase, a woodshed rage These days headlines are few And I say... I wash my hands, pull the splinters No master plan, I deliver Enigma wrapped in riddle Your life I belittle Dignity I'd steal Now I know how it feels |

| Alice in Chains – So Close Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Maybe Sean was watching Wheel of Fortune so he yelled "big big money!" | |
| Tool – Parabola Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I hate these people who view Tool as this omnipotent creation of God. (ex: Fargo, page one last post). The song has nothing to do with mathematical formulas or the big bang/crunch theory, dumbass. All the song says is, your body is simply a container for your soul to experience life through. Life is a chance to expose your soul to different experiences so do not be afraid of pain or dying because this is not the final frontier in who we are. | |
| Alice in Chains – Fairytale Love Story Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| You can tell by the guitar tuning that this is when Jerry was with Layne. They were somewhat glam but not to the degree that the band was back in '87 when they wrote songs like "Don't Be Satisfied" and "Hush Hush", when it was Layne, Johnny Bacolas and all his high school friends. This song is clearly a year or two later when Jerry was in the group. good song, too. I like how Layne downplays the vocals on "the bitch is over the brink." Very catchy. | |
| Alice in Chains – Glamorous Girls Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Johnny Bacolas and Layne Staley supposedly had a fetish for being with girls and keeping their clothes and wearing them. Johnny was in the original "Alice N' Chains" with Layne. This meaning of the song came straight from Layne before performing the song live in Tacoma in 1987. | |
| Alice in Chains – Dirt Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The person who said Layne overdosed is a moron. He died, his body was found, and of fucking course there was a certain level of drug content found in it. But there is no telling what level of concentration was in it the blood, which would in turn reveal whether it was enough to overdose or not. Like Sean Kinney said, Layne's body was so weak and degraded at the point of his death, a minor illness would have been enough to kill him because his immune system was severely devoured by heavily sustained drug abuse. The idea that he died of an overdose is only a suspision that is possible but not a proven fact. No shit there will be drugs around his body, no shit there will be drugs in his blood, he was an addict, dumb fuckers. | |
| Alice in Chains – Again Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This song is about Layne and Demri. Layne kept extending himself out to Demri, and even though their relationship was defunct he let her live in his place as long as she wouldn't use drugs while she was there, because Layne was trying his best to stay clean himself. She started using in Layne's place, which was a slap to Layne's face, and he couldn't just kick her to the streets so instead Layne left his own home, and the way it sounds in this song is that this was not the first time she let him down, hence the repeating of the word "again." The end of this song refers to Demri's ongoing heart problems that ultimately took her life. Layne is fooling himself into thinking that by extending himself out to Demri like I described above it will heal her heart, but deep inside he knows it won't and it eats him up. |

| Alice in Chains – Get Born Again Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Redsand, what an awesome interpretation, I can't argue against that. Nicely done. Demri was a major hole in Layne's life, but I highly doubt this song is about her. | |
| Alice in Chains – Fear The Voices Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| On another note, the "voices" are clearly the center piece in this song and are the key to its meaning. The voices don't necessarily have to be the media. Refer to the first set of lines, once your have signed your name over, the "voices" could be the men/women in charge of the record label. At this point, that is how I read it. That opens another idea, perhaps the song is saying, if you still have choices, or in this case you ignore the voices, they will blow you away by invading your privacy and feeding it to the public as a way of getting back at you. | |
| Alice in Chains – Fear The Voices Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I can only see this song as being about your personal space being invaded and abused. The way I read it is, once you sign to a record deal, you lose several freedoms you once had. Apparently this was the case for AIC, and when deciding whether or not to sign a record deal, they were warned by friends to reconsider, but just ignored them. This song was originally written in 1991-1992, in the same sessions as 'Dirt', so I find it hard to believe they would write a song directly about the media. In fact 'Grind' is the only song that is clearly about the media. Fear the Voices was too early on in their career to be about that subject, unless however, they changed some of the lyrics before releasing the song on the box set, in which case this entire paragraph can go out the window. Amongst the things this song can refer to are the requirements the band has to meet on their CD's -- record labels demanding a given amount of songs, with a limitation on how far out there the band can go artistically, as they lose choices on how they want their material to sound. All the while they have touring obligations to meet. But the one line that bothers me is the Mr. Gardener line, which basically refers to the media, giving out personal information without your consent. This song is really all over the place lyrically. Those are just my ideas on this song, maybe we should "put our heads together" and bounce off of each others' thoughts to come up with a single meaning that makes perfect sense. |

| Alice in Chains – What The Hell Have I Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The song couldn't be about anything other than a broken relationship trying to be brought back together. That could mean two people, or one person and perhaps drugs -- I lean more towards two people. The "fire" being felt "around us" represents the tension between the two when they are back around each other. After an intense fued between two people, when brought back together there is definitely a feeling of "fire" and intensity -- because the past is difficult to get around -- therefore every moment together feels unatural and anxious. | |
