Five for Fighting – If God Made You Lyrics 16 years ago
I heard that this song is about a miscarriage, and that makes sense. The whole song is talking to the child who died, and the idea that they're waiting for him in Heaven. The 'If God made you he's in love with me.' and 'There's somewhere better than this' part is saying that he's of course he's sad that the baby died, but that the child is somewhere better and never had to go through the trials and heartbreaks of life.

The Fray – You Found Me Lyrics 17 years ago
I actually think that part of the song is God talking. Listen to the chorus YOU found ME, and what's the first line I found GOD.

I said, "Where you been?" He said, "Ask anything."

Where were you, when everything was falling apart? (this is the question posed to God)
All my days were spent by the telephone that never rang (this is where the narrative switches, this is God's answer)
And all I needed was a call that never came
To the corner of 1st and Amistad (this is where God was, remember? He was waiting for the boy to ask for help, to 'find' him and he never did)

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor, surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me. (this is saying that the boy didn't find God until he was completely lost and had no where to turn, and why did he wait so long when he knew God would help if he would just ask)

God is saying through out the song (the I've been calling for years and years) that he's been trying to get through to him for years (through the girl, who eventually left him) and he never came to him.

HIM – Dark Light Lyrics 18 years ago
bobcat, Bam had nothing to do with the recording or writing of this album, if it 'sucks' is Ville's fault, he was in charge of every thing, he even conducted the drum, guitar and keyboard as well as writing all the songs. So if it isn't good it's no one's fault but the man in charge.

HIM – Dark Light Lyrics 18 years ago
When it was discovered that thirteen-year-old Tora has leprosy, she is sent from her family's remote mountain farm to the leprosy hospital in the bustling port of Bergen. In early-nineteenth-century Norway, lepers are quarantined in this hospital and no longer considered among the living. But even as her body gradually fails her, Tora's new life blossoms. She finds strength through helping her fellow patients, both young and old, and she decides to see for herself what the Bible says about leprosy. To do so, she must make friends with the young and angry Mistress Dybendal, the only person at the hospital who can teach her to read.

That's the description of the boook, it fits, she's an outcast, she's told her God has abandoned her, she's hidden away and she's dying.

HIM – Dark Light Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is based on the book The Dark Light. The book is about a girl who has leprosy and is then sent away to a hospital and kept away from society. This is what Ville said anyway. I looked it up and the book does exist. So there you go.

The White Stripes – Let's Build A Home Lyrics 18 years ago
Actually the little ditty that everyone is supposed to know goes like this:
"I wish I had a little red box to put the devil in I'd take him out and punch punch punch and put him back again. I wish I had a little black box to put my bible in I'd take it out and read read read and put it back again. I wish I had a little white box to put my Jesus in, I'd take him out and kiss, kiss, kiss and put him back again."

Anyone else think that's it's weird how the boxes in that song (which is apparently as old as time atleast to church families) are red, black and white, Jack was right they are the most powerful colors in the world, or the most often paired together atleast.
LoL! And yeah his big brother does go 'sit still' but not when he pauses, pre that you can hear air and stuff were Jacks moving around.
Here's the entire conversation:
Mom: Let's sing some of the songs. Do you know any by heart?
Jack:Swish (you can hear his feet hit the floor, lol what the hell was Jack doing?)
Mom (whispering/giggling):sit down
Brother:Sing that one you were singing about the little red box. Sing that one.
Mom: Oh yeah, I haven't heard that one in a long time
Jack:No
Mom: Did you forget it?
Jack: No
Brother: You forgot all the words, didn't you?
Mom:Show me how it goes, because I forgot, and I wanna remember and I wanna-
Jack: Okay
Brother: Sit Still!
Jack: I wish I had a little red box to put my best friends in, I'd take them out and............put them back again!

Also while Jack is 'singing' you can hear the mom whispering again and Jack's feet are hitting the floor or seat again so she's probably saying 'sit still' lol, hyper child :P

The White Stripes – The Hardest Button to Button Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with the people who say it's Jack talking about his life but using strange phrases and changing the facts a little. He's said in an interview before that the idea came from a saying his dad has about 'My Grandad had a 10 button coat and only 8 buttoned' that was referring to his (Jack's dad) 10 kids and how 2 of them were rebels. Jack's the 'hardest button to button' meaning that he's the hardest one to get to button down and live a nice quiet little life. I think this song is told in the perspective of Jack's older brothers and sisters and how there was probably a lot of hostility and such around the birth of a tenth child. The 'Now we're a family and we're alright now, we got money and a little place to fight now' is the kids repeating what the parents are saying with their own little twist like the parents are trying to be all happy about the new kid by saying 'things are good, we got a home, and a nice family and there's nothing to worry about' but the kids are focusing on the smaller things such as their backyard is empty and how the parents argue, and that in such a big family its easy to get overlooked and feel like your opinions don't matter.

Jack is/was the 'hardest button to button' though he said so in some interview

The White Stripes – The Denial Twist Lyrics 18 years ago
I think its about a girl who was cheating on the guy and he doesn't want to admit it.

If you think that a kiss is all in the lips
C'mon, you got it all wrong, man
And if you think that our dance was all in the hips
Oh well, then do the twist
If you think holding hands is all in the fingers
Grab hold of the soul where the memory lingers (this part is saying that a kiss is so much more than a kiss and so on, it's like the narrator and whoever he's talking to is arguing he's saying it's just a kiss and the narrator is saying kisses aren't just kisses) and
Make sure to never do it with a singer
Cause he'll tell everyone in the world

What he was thinking about the girl
Ya, what he's thinking about the girl, oh (some tongue in cheek joking about himself (jack not narrator)

A lot of people get confused and they bruise
Real easy when it comes to love
They start putting on their shoes and walking out
And singing "boy, I think I had enough" (saying that the dude doesn't want to admit it because he bruises real easy and he doesn't want to walk out)

Just because she makes you feel wrong
She don't mean to be mean or hurt you on purpose, boy (this is being said sarcastically in my mind, this is what the guy is telling himself)
Take a tip and do yourself a little service
Take a mountain turn it into a mole (what the song is all about he keeps downplaying what she's doing so he can convince himself that she's not cheating on him)

Just by playing a different role
Ya, by playing a different role, oh

The boat ya you know she's rockin' it
And the truth well ya know there's no stoppin' it (Saying, you know she's still messing around and nothing you can do to change the fact)

The boat ya you know she's still rockin' it
The truth well you know there's no stoppin' it

So what, somebody left you in a rut
And wants to be the one who's in control (the chick is treating the guy wrong trying to be the one in charge of the relationship)
But the feeling that you're under can really make you wonder
How the hell she can be so cold (He's beginning to wonder how the girl can treat him so wrong)

So now you're LEFT, denying the truth
And it's HIDDEN in the wisdom in the back of your tooth (Saying that the guy knows she's cheating, he's smart enough to realize what's going on but he's still denying it)
Ya need ta spit it out, in a telephone booth
While ya call everyone that you know, and ask 'em

Where do you think she goes
Oh ya, where d'ya suppose she goes, oh (He needs to realize whats going on, and he does when he starts asking his friends where do THEY think she's going)

The truth well you know there's no stoppin' it
And the boat well ya know she's still rockin' it

The boat ya you know she's still rockin' it
And the truth ya you know there's no stoppin' it

You recognize THE EFFECT AND THE FACT
That it's COMIN when she rocks the boat (He knows that her cheating is going to end their relationship)
WELL it's the cause hittin on the Cardinal Laws
'bout the proper place to hang her coat (One of the Cardinal Laws in the Catholic Church is no cheating. the proper place to hang her coat is her house she lives in with her boyfriend/husband, not whoever she's cheating with)

So to you, the truth is still hidden
And the soul plays the role of a lost little kitten (He still can't face the truth and now his soul is dying because he's realizing he's going to lose the girl he loves)
but
You should know that DOCTORS WEREN'T KIDDIN
She's been singing it all along (he should've known it all along though because she's been doing it the whole time and not doing much to hide it)

But you were hearin' a different song
Ya you were hearin' a different song
But you were hearin' a different song (but he was in denial)

That's what I think it's about, I mean the title is the DENIAL twist.

The White Stripes – Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground Lyrics 18 years ago
Everyone's making this song too complicated. It's not about Meg either, why would he write a song about a divorce four years after the fact? Meg and Jack got married too young as they grew up a little they realized they were better as friends and so they divorced, no sob story at all. This is about someone else.

Dead leaves and the dirty ground
when I know you're not around (It's fall when they break up)
shiny tops and soda pops
when I hear your lips make a sound (It was summer or spring when together)

Thirty notes in the mailbox
will tell you that I'm coming home (He's been away, possibly on tour and he's been writing her while he's away letting her know that he's coming back)
and I think I'm gonna stick around
for a while so you're not alone (he's saying he's going to take a break from touring to stay with her for awhile)

If you can hear a piano fall
you can hear me coming down the hall (now he's there, and he realizes somethings up so he's running down the hall, probably screaming her name)
if I could just hear your pretty voice
I don't think I need to see at all (And if she would just answer him you know a 'Jack, I'm in here' he'd be okay)

Soft hair and a velvet tongue
I want to give you what you give to me
and every breath that is in your lungs
is a tiny little gift to me (Simple, he's telling her what he loves about her)

I didn't feel so bad till the sun went down
then I come home
no one to wrap my arms around (He was alright till nightfall and he had to crawl into the bed all alone)

Well any man with a microphone
can tell you what he loves the most (Saying that any musician, any singer always puts his music before everything)
and you don't know your love at all
if you're thinking of the holy ghost (saying the same thing, but going deeper on it, saying that if you believe that he loves anything more than singing and performing then you don't know him at all, even if he told you that. Also explaining more why she left him, she felt like he was choosing touring and music over her and got tired of always being by herself while he was gone)

That's whay I think this song is about. I really don't think it's about Meg, because she didn't leave, they still lived together in his parent's basement after they divorced for awhile, in this song someone left him because they couldn't take him being away so much, and him and Meg didn't have this problem because 1. it was before the band started touring and 2. she's in the frickin band with him, whereever he goes she goes.
I swear you find out they were married and suddenly every song is about them

My Chemical Romance – Disenchanted Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't care what they say this song is about Bert, they couldn't have wrote it during the Bullet sessions because this version was wrtten within the last two years (there was an original version that they played two years ago on stage and Gerard said then that this was the first time ever) and they didn't like it so they rewrote it. I've already explained the Shut up and Play version in its section so I'm just gonna explain the appendices here. I think Gerard realized once he calmed down that Shut up and Play was very harsh so he rewrote it but it's still about bert I don't give a fuck what that dude says (I'm not a MCR fan at all, and I only like the old shit from the Used but I do spend alot of time in the music scene)

Well i was there on the day
They sold the cause for the queen (Bert and Gerard did a Queen cover, Under Pressure, they did it to raise money for the tsunami)
And when the lights all went out, we watched our lives on the screen (it was televised)
I hate the ending myself, (hates how their friendship ended)
But it started with an alright scene (but it started in a cool way)

It was the roar of the crowd that gave me heartache to sing (he's a fucking emo singer, obviously)
It was alive when they smiled and said,
"You won't feel a thing" (It's common knowledge in the music scene that when you're on stage it doesn't matter if your mom just died you don't feel anything because 'you sing it out')
And as we ran from the cops we laughed so hard It would sting

Yeah Yeah, Oh

If i'm so wrong (so wrong, so wrong)
how can you listen all night long? (Gerard was trying to get Bert off the drugs Bert would pretend to listen and then as soon as he would leave Gerard he would do exactly what Gerard told him not to)
(night long, night long)
How will it matter after i'm gone? (Bert was doing this for Gerard's benefit but Gerard's saying how did that even matter)
because you never learned a goddamned thing (because Bert is still in trouble even after they stopped being friends he hasn't learned his lesson)

You're just a sad song with nothing to say
About a life long wait for a hospital stay
Well if you think that i'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to you

I spent my high school career
Spit on and shoved to agree
So I could watch all my heroes sell a car on tv
Bring out the old guillotine
We'll show 'em what we all mean
(this part has nothing to do with Bert I agree I think this is just saying how he finds the passion needed to sing, becuase he was pushed around in school)

But I still don't believe that this is in no way about Bert it just fits too well. I haven't heard this song, just read the lyrics and it just feels like it. I know that Shut Up and Play was about Bert, and this is just a softer version the only part of Shut Up and Play he kept in here was the chorus. Newsflash! Bands lie in interview, all the time if something is too personal or embarrasing or they don't want certain people to read it then they lie.

My Chemical Romance – Shut Up and Play (Disenchanted) Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about Bert McCracken from The Used, him and Gerard Way were friends, Bert started doing drugs again and basically told Gerard to fuck off because Gerard was always on him to get off the drugs (this was after Gerard got clean as well) and so he wrote this song:
Another sad song, with nothing to say
About a life-long wait for a hospital stay (Basically saying that Bert is just going to end up another song about someone who overdosed)
If you believe that I'm wrong
This never meant nothing to you (If he believes that Gerard is wrong about him doing drugs then the friendship wasn't anything to begin with)
I waited so long for someone to say
If you can move on
I'll never get you to stay (he's waiting for someone to tell him to move on and leave Bert alone)
If you believe that I'm wrong
This never meant nothing to you
Another sad song, with nothing to say
About a life-long, wait for a hospital stay
If you believe that I'm wrong
This never meant nothing to you

And if you hold on
And need me to stay
You get the hard thoughts
Oh baby just the mistakes (Gerard's saying that even if they do become friends again then this is all he'll be able to think about, the fact that Bert turned him away when he was trying to help him)
Maybe we'll just
Shut up and play (Stop fighting and both just get on with their music so they don't become another one of thsoe music wars or whatever)
It never did mean nothing to you
Never did mean ...(saying that their friendship never meant nothing to Bert)
We never really liked you much anyway (to me this sounds just like what someone would say after breaking up with a friend to kind of you know ease their pain or to hide it)
That's basically what it's about, I'm not a fan of MCR anymore but I was when the whole Gerard/Bert shit went down and this song started leakign abouton the net (around 2 yrs ago)

HIM – Song Or Suicide Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about Ville's friend Thurston who commited suicide. Songs are Ville's way of coping with this grief, and suicide was Thurston's way.
Basically talking about how he feels the grief at all times but especially when he's alone and 'out of the light'.
He recorded this by himself, in his hotel room with just his acoustic guitar. At the beginning of the song he says 'for a friend' real quickly.
All of this from various interviews out this month and last month.

This is what VIlle said about the song
'IN some mythologies they think that butterfly wings have eternal life it's asking you if you're willing to destroy something beutiful to be immortal to make things last forever.'

So there you go that's what the song means
