I think people have gotten the wrong impression about this song-- about its supposed "message". When I first heard this song, and even when I hear it today, I don't think its about a woman being subservant to her man. I do NOT think this is a song about losing your independence. "If I want it, got it When I ask you, you provide it You inspire me to be better You challenge me for the better" -Verse 1 "Let me cater to you cause baby this is your day Do anything for my man, baby you blow me away I got your slippers, your dinner Your dessert and so much more Anything you want, let me cater to you" -Chorus Clearly, this man has been working hard to make sure that the woman he loves is getting everything she really wants and needs for him. The thing I really want to emphasise is the 'this is your day' line-- it always sounded to me that this woman is acknowledging all the wonderful things that her boyfriend/husband has been doing for her, by giving him a special day where she is just like "you know what, I love you, and I'm going to show you how much" and is basically drowning him in affection and gifts. It's telling about a special occasion; a birthday, perhaps, or Valentines Day, or simply a free day they have to spend together that's going to be made the most of. |

In my opinion, this song's basically about this guy who has been in a relationship with a woman who abuses his love for her (making him jealous, making fun of him-- 'you can your friends were laughing at me and town'), leaving him feeling completely unfulfilled in their relationship because she's been controlling everything. In this song, the guy is basically saying 'enough' and is taking control of the relationship with his woman so he can get the fulfillment he has wanted all along. He wants her to surrender to him and quit with all her little games. |
